Remedials a positive sign?

So the Academies just requested a Remedial in order for me to be considered a waiver.

Is this a “positive sign” that I’m up and running for an appointment?

The wait is pretty hard. But we’re hanging tight! [emoji28]

A remedial is somewhat neutral.

It just means they (DoDMERB) need more data to make a Q or DQ decision. A remedial has nothing to do with the Waiver process.

There are two parts to the DoDMERB process. First your medical and eye exam goes to DoDMERB (located at Colorado Springs) and they determine one of three things.
  1. Qualified :D
  2. DQ o_O
  3. Remedial needed. (They need more info.)
A remedial just means that they don't have enough info to determine Q or DQ. Once you send in the info, then DoDMERB makes one of the same three decisions again.

If you are DQ, all is not lost! It is then it is up to the Academy or Program to determine if a Waiver is to be pursued. This is the Second part of the DoDMERB process that is bypassed if you are qualified during part one.

These flow charts may help:

I've also read here that actually getting the waiver is possibly an even better sign. I'm sure no one can say how good, we should not read too much into it, and does not guarantee anything, but hoping so...

I see.

I had a somewhat weird situation. I was previously deemed Disqualified. Then today, I was told that an Administrative Remedial was needed.

From what I read, I’m guessing that after the Administrative Remedial’s all settled with, they’re going to determine if I’m eligible for a Medical Waiver or not..

But anyways, I’m still keeping a positive outlook and hoping for some good news soon!

Absolutely stay positive.

The remedial only determines whether or not you are Q or DQ. DoDMERB does NOT as you say, "determine if you are eligible for a waiver." That is up to the Academy or ROTC program.

The DQ is sent to the Academy or ROTC program and THEY make the decision to Waive, not waive or request AMI. (look at the second flow chart).

Last year when I applied for USAFA. They actually granted me a waiver. Unfortunately, I wasn't offered an appointment. Yes a waiver is a positive sign but it's not a guaranteed road to an appointment. Don't lose hope though! I applied again for 2022 still waiting for an answer.

I was asked for remedials by DODMERB, got DQ and now I am in the process of the waiver with AFROTC...I was requested more AMI's (remedials) just recently by the waiver authority...I have to wait for another reply.

Check the diagram AFROTC dad uploaded and you will understand the process better.
