Please remember as you wake up tomorrow that if you don't get a slot at SS, it has no bearing on whether you will ultimately secure an appointment. SS is an outreach to pre-candidates who might not have considered a service academy. If you came across in your application as someone who is showing new/recent interest in the academy (as opposed to someone who has been dreaming of the academy for years and/or has already visited the campus) or if you represent a particular diversity category or live in a city where the academy is focusing its outreach, you are more likely to be selected for SS. Failure to be selected for SS does not necessarily mean your application was weak. Our DS had a very strong application for SS with very high academics and extracurrics/leadership, yet he was not selected for SS, probably because we had already visited the campus two years earlier. Turns out it did not matter as he is now a 2022 appointee. So tomorrow, if you get disappointing, heart-sinking news, do not lose hope. The real prize is the appointment, anyway, and one result definitely does not pre-determine the other.
