Appointments 2022

DD has had semi regular contact with her RC, and if she has a question, she shoots him an email, and he is very responsive. Frivolous questions : Am I going to get an appointment?........bad.............Legit quesstions: This letter showed up on my portal, and I am not sure if I am supposed to do anything?...........much better received. They are busy, but her RC has been very helpful

Is it a bad sign that my DS has not heard anything from any RC? Ever.

When DS was applying to West Point 2 years ago, I don’t recall him having direct contact with an RC. There was some communication with a candidate technician, and I recall her emails being rude and condescending. In the end, DS was QNS. He received a 4-year AROTC scholarship and is doing very well. It was the best outcome for him, IMHO.

thank you for all the replies. i was really not trying to 'guess' the chances for my DS. i was simply trying to understand the process for the competitive slate since my original understanding was that all the applications for those on the slate had to be submitted before anyone was appointed. i will now assume the individual that was appointed (prior to the application deadline) was an excellent candidate with an additional nom that he was potentially charged to.
To muddy the waters further....
On a competitive slate, the slot winner can be appointed before all the candidates on the slate have completed their files (ie before the application deadline) . This happens when the slot winner is the 'clear winner' of the slate by being far ahead in WCS points from the others on the slate.

buff81-that certainly did 'muddy the waters"! So how do they determine WCS points of those on the slate if some on the slate have not completed the application? What components determine the WCS or is that a score from the nomination source? I assumed it was the 'whole' package. I imagine there are many candidates that stand out as 'clear slot winners' but how would that be determined prior to scoring the last applicant? What if that one was the 'clear winner' and the other had already been appointed? Again, this is completely for my personal understanding of the process as this is all new to us. My DS would be honored to receive an appointment but assumes he's in the 'average' range (plus has the uphill battle of a DQ for a condition he doesn't actually have) and is patiently waiting to see the outcome. Again, thank you all for the forum posts...they have provided a wealth of information.

ok, i'm now replying to myself after googling WCS...i guess there is enough in an incomplete application to determine that an applicant's WCS is not competitive with a 'clear slate winner's' final score.

@SAnew22 Keep in mind that there is what typically happens and the few exceptions each year. When it comes down to an MOC slate, very few with have 10 competitive candidates that have completed the entire process. I see kids all the time who actually have nominations but did not complete the application process. Admissions ranks candidates during the entire process and most districts will have 3 or 4 truly competitive and the rest realistically do not have a chance unless really crazy things happen. Admissions can look at these numbers and make a pretty good call on the chances by January. Test scores, class rank, ECA participation will not change that much in the next eight weeks. A candidate could be that "clear slate" winner as nothing the #2 could submit could raise his score enough to become #1.

Now, people are going to tell you about this one time .... but most MOC districts have 3-5 candidates that compete until the end of the process to determine who wins the slate.

Well my DS status changed today--" we received all your application info and the admissions committee has qualified your file". Then explains about no rolling admin and waiting list. Good or bad?

My understanding is that simply means continue to wait. You are still in the running.

OK-- Hoping i can get some feedback. My DS is wanting to retake his Sat or ACT to try to improve his score. The Act is in April and Sat in May. Am i throwing money down a well?

The application window for the class of 2022 is closed. They will not take any additional scores.

I am not sure the few dollars is a waste if this is what he wants. If he does not get in this year, they can be used next year.

Improvement in test scores is the single biggest impact you can make to the WCS calculation.

As @USMA 1994 said, "too late for this year" but if your kid likes to torture himself, rock on with taking the test again. Otherwise, wait to see how the admissions cycle plays out--and then if he would like to apply again next year, he can take the test again in May or even June.

The other advantage of taking the test again would be if he wanted an Army ROTC or AFROTC scholarship and did not get one, higher scores now will improve his chances later.
