Anybody else find out they were selected for NROTC today? We are actually in a bit of shock (and excitement) to get the email that my daughter was selected for NROTC Nursing scholarship today! I'm curious if there were others selected for Nursing and what school. She was selected for Villanova- her top choice. So excited and proud yet feeling overwhelmed.

Outstanding nursing program....

There have been several other acceptance posts a few include Villanova.

Congratulations, 2nd time around for us.

Do you get an email, or do you have to check your portal?[/QUOTE]

Both. You'll receive an email and your portal status will change.

We checked the portal first and then about 20 minutes later an email came through.

Thank you! I'm still trying to figure out how to use this message board and still don't see any other posts. I'm glad to hear there are others for Villanova as well though! I do have a concern and perhaps you have some knowledge since you have experience with ROTC. She exceeds all the requirements for Nova but I know it's a tough school to get into. My concern is she hasn't been accepted yet! Their website says notifications will be sent by the end of March. So hopefully we will hear in the next couple of weeks but what if she doesn't get accepted into VU? Does she have to go to next school on her list? Any chance the VU admissions office would change their decision if they knew she had a ROTC scholarship? I'm curious what the options are if it comes to that. I'm on pins and needles waiting....

Big deep breath... She can send an email to your regional rep showing her excitement of the school and being awarded the NROTC scholarship. FL will notify the unit of the scholarship. To that end an email to the CO would be nice again being excited. Chain of command is important so as a thought look up the freshman LT. She should add a note that she would be looking fwd to working with that LT. This will show she has a slight understanding of the chain. Others may chime in with other thoughts and all thoughts are important. Bottom line any correspondence needs to come from her in her words.

Cheers

We are in the same boat waiting for word from DS's assigned school. My understanding is the list of "five" is completely irrelevant once you are awarded the scholarship, and you can seek to transfer the scholarship to ANY school with NROTC -- if they still have room for her in the unit at the time of her transfer. My DS applied to other NROTC schools in addition to the "five." Immediately upon being awarded the NROTC scholarship, my DS reached out to the unit commanders for his assigned school and they indicated that they give admissions a list of those assigned to the unit and to let them know if he does not get accepted. Do that right away so they can add her to the list at Villanova. Whether it helps or not with admissions I think depends on the school and remains to be seen for my DS. My DS's assigned school is a reach school for him, and for everyone who applies frankly. So with this in mind, he applied to a broad range of reaches and safeties and reached out to the other NROTC schools to which he applied, both admissions and the NROTC units directly, and told them he received the scholarship, and inquired if there is still a space for him if he is not accepted to his assigned school. Admissions generally replied with something to the effect of "congrats, and your application has been updated," and the units were all great, and said there IS still room for him. Bottom line, she has received a scholarship that is merit based, so it's a great excuse to update admissions at the various schools to which she applied and important to inquire whether there are spaces left in other units as a backup plan. Fingers crossed for your DD, and congratulations!!
