USMA Class of 2022 Appointment Thread

DS received a letter saying West Point has eliminated rolling admissions this cycle. What does that mean? He's been 3Q'd and put on the waiting list. The letter suggests he should update his file with significant updates, but that the deadline was Feb 28, and the letter is dated in March. Does this simply mean he's qualified and wait for news on an appointment? Is this a good thing?

It could be a good thing or also mean his odds are long. He is qualified which is a good thing. If his nomination slate has not been resolved, he is still competing for an offer.

If his nomination slate has already been resolved, then he is placed on the NWL where he can compete for the first 150 offers by OML or the remaining additional appointees that are used to fill the class out.

His RC is the only person who can give him that information.

CBeaker, Congratulations on your Appointment. Its quite an achievement.
CBeaker,
Just curious, what are the factors that delay between your 3Q and Appointment? was there any requirement not submitted? I'm just trying to gauge since the wait is so stressful. Hope to hear you again. Thanks.

Pipo Congratulations on your DD being 3Qed. If your DD has a LOA I do not know the time.
While not all 3Qed candidate are appointed, being 3Qed shows you have met the requirements for Qualifying and nothing needs to be added to your file. However if you have additional accomplishments, add them.
Let me say that receiving nominations alone requires quite a bit of work and effort on the individuals part and in my opinion is an achievement in itself.
Factors that affect 3Q time to Appointment, I would say 1- when the board meets. Tuesdays. 2- Whether or not an Appointment has accepted. If the candidate above you has the appointment but also has applications to other academies or schools and is waiting to here back before they accept or decline that will affect the time. About 19 out of the 86 on this forum have not decide that's around 8%. There may be more factors, these are the first two that I could think of.
"The waiting is the hardest part" especially for parents. Last year I lost my job of getting the mail to my wife from January to the 8th of February.
Enthalpy, thanks for the encouragement. DD has no LOA, just 2 noms, Presidential and Congressional. It is tough indeed to be put on a "hurry up and wait" category!

I am in the same position as of a couple of days ago in terms of receiving the same letter, but is it worth reaching out to my RC for an answer? In other words, is it an appropriate thing to contact a RC for?

So far we haven’t hear anything. My DD was qualified awhile ago. He has four nominations ( 2 senators, 1 congress, 1 presidential). Is the Q3 the same as the letter that states you are qualified? Is it common to receive 4 nominations and not make the cut ?

Do you mind if ask what state you live in? Unless you live in a very small one receiving both senators' nominations would indicate an extremely competitive candidate. I am sure that people with both of those nominations have a high acceptance rate, but all it takes is one deficient area so it is hard to gauge without a knowledge of your DD's complete file. Senatorial slates are also generally much harder to win, so they probably do not drastically alter her chances, although it is surely a great sign.

South Carolina
Well, others can comment on the competitiveness of SC better, but I know that earning both senatorial nominations there is no small feat, so congratulations to your DD. I don't like to give false hope, but that quality of candidate has a very good chance of gaining admission.

It’s funny, when we first started the process I was pretty confident about him getting an appointment but I guess the wait makes everyone second guess the chances of getting in, I see that some students have been notified that they will not get in this year. Since we haven’t received a “no” we still have a chance. Thank you for your response, appreciate the positive feedback

It is impossible to be confident because we are a limited data set, but there are only two folks who have listed offers from SC and one of those turned it down. So, it may be that SC is just moving slow. Good luck.

Is this considered a "dead" period? seems very little activity going on. Could just be me and the waiting....:)
The wait is killing us! I keep telling my DD, that it has only been 3 weeks since her medical processed and the FFR interview, but the not knowing is excruciating! I keep saying no TWE so you are still in the game!

Many of us in same boat. I have heard that the West Point area has been hit with numerous storms making it hard to meet. Could be reason for lull. Waiting stinks but the process is still very young.

Bad news from sunny New England for those stalking the mailbox........While we have been hit by three Nor'Easters in the last two weeks, (30+ inches of snow in northern CT), there is ANOTHER one coming tomorrow, looking to dump better than 6 more.............I hope that the postman gets through it, but there was no mail last Wed, when we got 15"..........Keep the faith!! as Proudteacher says, no TWE is a good thing!!

DD says to apologize to all waiting for her "black cloud" that keeps dumping snow on West Point. She's convinced everything that can happen will happen to delay the BFE being in her hands and ending her VERY LONG wait :D At least her sense of humor has returned!! Hang in there everyone, I do know for a fact that the admissions board met today so hopefully some more good news coming in next few days.

Tera, we were in the same spot..............DD portal updated at the same time as others, yet they were getting the BFEs and she was not..............Took about 3 extra days, but man it was worth the wait!! Your road has been a long one, it will be even sweeter!!

Also, I feel the need to apologize to your DD..........Before this spate of snowstorms, the long range forecast called for nothing for two weeks (WRONG) and I sold my snowblower, as we are moving and won't be here next winter...............since then, I have been shoveling, and listening to my wife advise that it is my fault. I evidently singlehandedly cursed the entire region!!
