During the summer I am attending NASS and Boys State. Has anybody heard of the Devilpups program? Is it worth going to boost the extracurricular aspect of my application?

If you are weak in ECA's it won't hurt, but I wouldn't expect it to help that much either. You would probably gain more impact by organizing and leading a community program over the summer to pump your resume. Something like organizing a park clean up and improvement, that sort of thing.

Thanks!

Attending Boys' State is a great addition to your application. To get the most from it, be sure you are a very active participant! My DS left with a very highly regarded 'award' and it was noticed. Good luck!! GO NAVY! BEAT ARMY!

My DD graduated from the Devil Pups program back in 2013. I’m not sure if it added anything to her application, but it certainly opened her eyes to how much she loves the military. She enjoyed the experience.

Never heard of it either, but their website makes it sound like anyone who applies can attend. Sounds like it is free, but parents are also encouraged to make a 'donation'. Attending seminars/camps/programs....etc. (there are several often get mentioned here) that have no selection criteria and everyone who applies is able to attend, are not the type of leadership SA's value. You don't buy leadership. SA's value leadership gained throughout h.s. by what you have actually accomplished.

I went to Devil Pups in 2015 and it was one of the best things I could have ever done. It opened my eyes to the different ways I could serve in the military and it showed me that the military was something I wanted to be a part of my life. I actually first heard of the Naval Academy there 3 years ago, and now I have my appointment to USNA for the Class of 2022. I personally would recommend it to everyone. During my nomination interview, the interviewers knew what it was and new the challenges pups face at this program. The mental and physical challenges I faced at Devil Pups helped me find confidence in myself and gave me an experience I can remember when I'm going through plebe summer. (The instructors, which are Marines, are no joke!) When I attended there were pups from California, Nevada, and the farthest was Colorado. It might not give you a leadership role you're looking for but the experience is one that you can't find anywhere else, except here in sunny San Diego, CA on Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base.

Devil Pups is a great program for boys and girls ages 14-17 at Camp Pendleton in beutiful San Diego. Is 10 days of challenge, teamwork, discipline and education that combines outdoor physical exercises with inspirin classroom sessions. Just like kgsoccer22

And well described in the Devil Pups website " an exceptional program that provides critical values that last, character that leads to leadership, discipline that leads to college graduate, honor and respect to authority and parents that is the core of "good citizenship"
No doubts that those critical values that last, character that leads to leadership, discipline that leads to college graduate, honor and respect to authority and parents, will help kgsoccer22 not only during plebe summer but also during her 4 years at the Naval Academy, as a Commission Officer and beyond!

I'll just say do what you dig, rather than what you think will look good on your resume.
Devil Pups sounds like it might be fun though, because it's on a Marine base and Marines know how to have fun.
