Gonna keep it short but I used to vape a little bit (nicotine, not weed or anything), and I want to continue to do so (even though I haven't in a few months) but I don't want to hurt my chances of getting in. Do they drug test you for nicotine? (I'm 16 so it's not legal, but idk if they test you or not). Also should I be honest about the couple times I used to vape? I feel bad lying, but it was in the past so if it would hurt more than it would help, I would rather not tell them.

I’m going to be brutally honest with you. I don’t believe a service academy is where you belong at this point in your life. I do hope you the best.

Wow, there are so many things wrong with this post. You are willing to lie in order to attend a school where you'll swear an oath to not lie? And you admit that you're doing something wrong and illegal but are openly hoping to continue doing so? I can't say I'd be excited to serve alongside someone with the attitude you're portraying .

To answer your question, no it shouldn't hurt your chances and yes you should be honest. Smoking marijuana isn't even necessarily a disqualifier as long as you're honest.

It's too late to edit the post so I'm just going to clarify a few things here: 1. Lying was the wrong word - I don't want to lie, but it was literally twice or three times so I'm not sure whether it's worth bringing up 2. I know it's a stupid choice, but it's my life, and my priorities lie with applying to USAFA

It is your life, and you can omit whatever you want, however it’s not a good start to begin with a lie, they do ask specific questions regarding these things. The fact that you want to continue doing something that is illegal may also be a good reason to reconsider a career in the military.

If asked, answer honestly... don't decide not to bring it up as a lie could keep you from getting a security clearance later and then it's bye bye military. If you're not asked, don't worry about it, and don't volunteer it.

Now, as a person who has a heart pump embedded in my chest, cables coming out my belly, always attached to batteries or a wall outlet, and unable to swim or fish from a small boat... don't bother doing it. Stop it now. You do not need nicotine... especially if you liked it.

Answer the questions truthfully and directly, no more and no less.

You should be okay, so long as you do not continue to violate the law.

They definitely don't test you for nicotine. And although you are not of legal smoking age and you should stop, there is no reason to be discourage from applying or let anyone make you feel any less. Being an officer is being a person and sometimes you make mistakes. Learn from them and move on. The Air Force doesn't have perfect Airmen. We need people who've made mistakes to teach younger people about them. Just go for it don't let anyone tell you can't. The military is a whole new world and if you pursue it you'll soon find out.

What worries me is that you know it is wrong yet you say you will CONTINUE TO DO SO. Seriously, what kind of remorse is that? I do not believe this kind of attitude and mindset is fit for serve in the military. Please reconsider.

Kid: I know it is wrong and illegal and will probably kill me but I want to keep doing it, and I want to be in the US Military where they won't mind if I do stuff that's wrong, and illegal, and will probably kill me.

Kid continues: And I don't really mind lying about it because it's something I want to continue doing. AND I am in the top 10% of my class and my uncle was a Navy grad, and I really REALLY have wanted to fly fighter jets my ENTIRE life... so, no biggie if I lie about it, cause like, it's only a little bit wrong, illegal, and will probably kill me.

you could probably get a waiver for that, the DoDMERB examination goes over any possible medical/health concerns that can be waived by a doctor. I smoked weed once and I reported that on my DoDMERB and the doctor just looked over my form and waived it. Academies don't want to drive off every valedictorian that smoked weed once way back in sophomore year and hasn't done anything bad since. Be honest because lying about these things means you will just have to keep lying about it for the rest of your life and if you ever slip up or they find a discrepancy then that'll be an honor code violation (lying) which is MUCH worse than just getting the previous vape use waived. PM me if you want to talk more privately about this. (Credibility: did 1 year of AFROTC at a big party school and just received my appointment to USAFA C/O '22)

"We will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does." - USAFA Honor Code

Above all else be truthful, both with yourself and through the application process. If this is the path that you choose to follow do it with 100% heart and 100% commitment. Good luck!
