DS's high school counselor said WP usually sends a rep to senior award ceremony to present appointment in person. She asked me to put her in touch with someone at WP. Any idea who to contact at WP? Any tips much appreciated!

Someone actually mentioned that to me last night at dinner. Told him I had never heard of it. I will be interested to see what the more experienced folk have to say, thanks

Your Field Force Rep usually takes care of this.

If you have not been in contact with one during the process, I would reach out to the one listed in your portal.

If you are able to schedule this, it is common courtesy to ask the school counselor to schedule the FFR's presentation early during the program so that he/she can leave immediately after announcing your appointment and avoid sitting through dozens of other awards.

Remember, the FFR's, BGO's, and ALO's are volunteers!

Ask your child if they want to be recognized in that way. As a parent I was so proud of my cadets when they were accepted, but they both had no desire to be recognized in front of the school on awards night. Not saying one way or other is better but your future cadet's desire should rule the day.

Our school made a pretty big deal out it. They also recognized the ROTC scholarship kids with presentations. It was really well done and all of those recognized received standing “Os”. Nice to see the FFR in his uniform, the Blue/Gold rep in his whites, and our sons ALO in blue.

Great point. jebdad

After my DD's appointment came last year, She was asked to speak at an AIM meeting. The FFR was there, her RC was there and another West Point graduate Major that was his last year teaching at West Point. They asked her about senior awards for them to go. It was literally the next morning. She had no clue they did this. Sure enough that Major said he would be there . The funny part is she had also received a 4 yr ROTC scholarship too. She was part of the MCJROTC program at school. She was presented with her appointment to West Point by the Major and ROTC afterwards stated that she had been awarded their 4 yrs scholarship too worth over $250k and they were just happy that the Army got her. Needless to say, her Marine instructors bit their tongues, lol. The superintendent was there too.

I am new... but my son won a 4 yr AROTC Scholarship and we would like for him to have a presentation at his High School Awards Night. Who is an FFR? Who should we contact? His counselor has been of no help...

A FFR is associated with West Point and therefore would not present a 4 yr ROTC scholarship.

Contact the school he is planning to attend and see what they have to say. I would also post this in the ROTC section as they may have more specific information.

I guess we were very fortunate that our school was familiar with military awards and took the reigns. We had my DD as the only academy recipient, 2 ROTC scholarships, 1 National Guard and another military one that I didn't recognize. Her FFR presented hers. The ROTC was the Colonel who is currently in charge of the JROTC program. They made a HUGE deal about it.
