The R-Day Box

What is the R-Day box?
The R-Day/Day 1 Box may have caused more angst for 2018 parents than any other thing on Reporting In Day. It's a shoe-sized covered plastic box that fits in a drawer in which swabs and cadets can store food in their room. Parents worry about what's the right size, the right box, what to put in it, if it needs to be in another box, where to leave it on Day 1, how to address it, whether it will get delivered, and so on. We joke about it now, but there were some pretty crazy questions and concerns voiced on the 2018 parents Facebook group at the time.

You can bring your own box, however my suggestion is to purchase one from the Parents Association Chapter that will be selling boxes in Leamy Hall on Day 1. You can bring your own things to put in the box or buy them from the Chapter selling the boxes. They will give you an address label on which you will write your swab's name and Chase mailbox number. You leave the box with them, and it will get delivered at some point.

You now know everything there is to know about the former R-Day Box and the new Day 1 Box.

Got it! Never heard them called that, but those were the bomb over Swab Summer.

HAHAHAHAHA!! Remember so well all the angst associated with the R-Day box. Hard to believe they are graduating, the time flew.

This is what we learned last year when our DS was going to Swab Summer: You can buy the correct size box on R day from one of the parents groups. You can bring your own items to fill it up with and/or buy some things there they have to sell. We brought some things with us that we know he likes and also bought a few things. Once done you will put your cadets name etc on the box. They then take it from you and will get it to your Swab. It took our DS about 2 weeks to get it.
You CANNOT bring your own box and hand it to the parents org to give to your Swab. If you want to give them another box, then you must mail it yourself. We mailed a box to our DS about 1 week prior to us leaving to go to Rday. He did not receive that one until about the same time as the other one.
The box arrival depends on when the cadre pick up the boxes, sort them and hand them out. It could take awhile.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I will do my best to answer them.
