Selected For NROTC

Hopeful,

My DD has her application completed and handed in back in July.

Congrats to all...I can recall how exciting it was to hear DS’s news! Euphoric!! Very proud parents moments :)

University of Arizona, 1st choice!... Bear Down Arizona!!!

Congratulations! That's my alma mater - I think she'll love it! Only downside of Arizona is that they won't let you stack merit scholarships so she'll have to pay for room & board. I tried to get DS (recent ISR NROTC scholarship recipient) to apply there, but he wants either Embry Riddle Daytona or one of the SMCs. Still waiting on Placement.

Thank you. She is extremely excited. She's already been admitted to the honors college at UA so she's set. She is a Tier 2 - Physics.

Well quite shocked; however, our DD was just selected for the NROTC scholarship.

Tier 3 - George Washington University.

She has some thinking to do now.

As others have already said, congratulations to you and your DD.

My DD is a crosstown MIDN attending Georgetown which is part of the Capital Battalion at George Washington University. She loves it.

In regards to her notification, she was sent an email and when she checked the portal it too was updated. Only the portal gave the school.

I honestly did not expect this so all I can say is (and it has been said by so many). “You have no idea what they are looking for.”

I watched two sons go through this and their resumes were identical. My oldest did not get it my other son did. My daughters resume was stronger in academia; however, her math was weak and she applied tier 2. I’m truly confused.

I think I was even more surprised by her reaction. It started a practice with the coach sending her home and when she got in the door she was super over the top happy. I don’t get the crying stuff.

She has not heard back from the Naval Academy but something tells me she will accept the NROTC scholarship.
My DS#1 accepted AROTC and the Army was going to present his big check at 11:45am.. he got a call from CGA to accept an appointment at 10am. I called the Army as soon as I can and cancelled their trip to my DS school. Then my husband called the Army main office. They said, if my son decided the CGA is not for him, his 4 yrs AROTC scholarship is his until school semester start. He is in the class of 2020,

Navypmw,
Good stuff.... We toured Gtown with our DD. She applied but not for NROTC. I have no idea what she will do if selected. I’m really confident she will stay with NROTC. If she is selected for the Naval Academy she will have some thinking to do. Our DS will commission in May he has been talking to her.

DD accepted her scholarship tonight. Aug 26, NSO; start of breakdown & buildup. She saw her brother after his first night and talked to him about the rest so she has a very small glimmer of a clue of what’s to come. “Very” small glimmer.

Would anyone whose DS or DD received the NROTC scholarship care to articulate the credentials on which the offer was made? I am curious as to how competitive my DS background is. Thanks!

And the journey begins [emoji3][emoji631][emoji631][emoji631][emoji3] Pass this along for me if you will shipmate. "Young lady, go forth and do great things". We're all rooting for you!!

Great to hear that your DD accepted her NROTC scholarship. The Capital Battalion at George Washington University provides some great opportunities that are difficult to match elsewhere. The close proximity to the capital provides many great guest speakers. Also, PT is held on the capital mall in front of the Lincoln Memorial! Hard to beat that. Wishing your DD all the best.

Hi, I am new to this forum and would like to personally thank everybody for giving us so much helpful information last year when my DS was going through the NROTC application process.

Ex.BT.USN, my DS is on scholarship at GW, and he absolutely loves the whole experience. Not only is the school a perfect fit, but also, his fellow Midshipmen have been an incredible support and mentoring network. If you want any more info, feel free to send me a private message with your phone number, and I'll give you a call.

Once again, thanks to everybody.

Jeepman, please keep in mind that this info is from 2016 for the 2017-2018 school year. My DS had a 730 Math and 660 English along with a 3.95 GPA and Tier-1 major. In addition, he was a 4 year letter winner, 2x Team Captain, and played club sports for 12 years. He submitted his application in late October 2016, interviewed in late November 2016, and received his notification of acceptance via email on Christmas Eve 2016. It was a VERY happy Christmas!

I am not sure if the selection criteria varies based on the academic reputation of the schools that are being applied to. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.

Good luck!

DS received NROTC (Tier 3 ) to top choice -

1470 SAT (740 Verbal, 730 Math) grade average 92, rigorous course schedule, 3 varsity sports, Class President, Eagle Scout, Boys State, etc.

Hope this is helpful. (Still waiting on USNA!)
