Read this today...

Sigh. Just heard about this today myself.

Poor judgement from the midshipman. I would also have to say his lawyer is correct to a certain extent that the word in question seems to be relatively okay for blacks to use, but a no-no for any other race. I remember going to high school and hearing the word used a lot, mainly by blacks referring to other blacks. My question is, why should people of any race be allowed to use the word...

Very unfortunate. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. I’m curious: anyone know of a mid (or other academy member) being separated, sue for reinstatement and winning? What would that look like? Maybe it doesn’t happen in the military?

Ouchies. You gotta be careful about what you put online.

I heard an old story about how Harvard rescinded their offers to a group of young men for what they posted online.

Just say "no" to the pitfalls of social media. Privacy is a human right, and like any right, we have an obligation to protect it with good judgment and a moral compass. My most embarrassing, off-center and darkest thoughts are my own, and no one can have them. The stream of consciousness promoted by social media is simply a snare that we must avoid. If I want to fantasize about playing monopoly in an igloo with a very pretty woman from 14th century Mongolia who is dressed in a she-devil outfit, I ain't sharing those thoughts lest I be judged.....just sayin!

As parents, we need to remind our kids of the same. All that hard work to get in and this kid makes a dumb mistake. Such a shame.

Manage social media or else it will manage you.

What is ironic is how difficult it is to persuade young SA candidates to maintain anonymity on THIS platform!

Too many avatars with real photos or user ID's with real names!
Yeah, you really shouldn't post your pic. AROTC-dad LOL! Way too revealing!

Seriously, I hear you. Let's hope we cycle out of this phase of our society with a vengeance. Lack of impulse control with no sense of delayed gratification is no way for a society to thrive. We will become nothing more than lemmings and shrews following and seeking to satisfy our narcissistic cravings on a perpetual basis.

Honestly I think kids are trending away from social media. At least that’s my experience with my own 4 and their friends. However, they feel like they are safe in their ‘private’ group chats (vs FB, IG, Twitter). Either group txting, or what app or whatever. Regardless, once a word is spoken (or txted or typed), it cannot be taken back from the ears of those that hear it.

Who said you could use my igloo?

Cadets have gotten into hot water over things they put into emails and texts.

Some of us should probably have breathalyzers attached to our electronic devices as well.

I dont understand why anyone uses that word. It does make it confusing when African Americans saying it so casually. Even if he thought he should be allowed to say it based on context, he should have know better
