Laundry during BCT and the academic year?

I was hoping to get some info on how laundry is handled during BCT as well as the academic year? I thought I may have noticed a post that BCT Cadets do their laundry on Sundays? What about during the academic year? What are the laundry facilities like (enough to handle the 4000+ students that attend USAFA)? Do Cadets opt for a laundry service for their everyday clothes (seems like an expensive option) ? I know they use dry cleaning services for their dress uniforms.

Goodwill provides weekly laundry and dry cleaning services during BCT and all of the 4* year. If I remember right from the budget, it's a small monthly pay deduction for the entire first year. There is also one coin laundromat in each dorm which the upper three classes can use as needed--they're not huge, but have enough washers and dryers to meet demands.

Something to keep in mind is that C4C's do not get off base, even to go to sponsor families, every weekend. So, expecting to do laundry once a week or even every other week off base is a huge gamble. Also, depending on the sponsor family, even though they may say it is okay, expecting to do laundry during your visits could be somewhat of an imposition.

My advice is a "little" dated-- but just use the laundry service! Your DD or DS will have more than enough other stuff to do and to worry about on the weekends. In fact, I think it's worth it up until second semester Two degree year-- then they need to start learning and practicing Life Skills Needed in the Real World.

Agreed - use the supplied services during doolie year for USAFA uniforms. The service provided by Goodwill is probably not at the same standards that mom (or dad) provided for ~18 years, but allows them to focus on other things. Also, most squadrons will actively discourage doolies from using the cadet laundromat.

Yes, there is a monthly payroll deduction for this service for the first eleven months at USAFA (July through May). The budget for the Class of 2021 showed this cost at about $55/month.

After recognition, the C4Cs will be allowed to have civies, so they will probably want to wash these themselves in the cadet laundromat (during off-peak laundry times).
