Navy ROTC Class of 2022

@goblueDad, Congratulations to your DS! Has he visited the campus yet? It's an amazing place and a fantastic NROTC unit. Unfortunately, the CO is retiring after this year. I have immense respect for that man and the values he is teaching the unit. The XO and the rest of the staff that I have met are great too. There is a new freshman adviser, whom I have not met. The unit does a lot of community service projects and fun activities and there is a great atmosphere of camaraderie and mentorship among the mids. I'll echo @Ex.BT.USN, get involved. It makes a big campus feel smaller.

Thank you very much for the response @ProudDad17. Yes, we have visited Michigan a number of times - I graduated from Michigan in the late 80s. My DS is a big Michigan fan and is very excited about attending Michigan next year. He is very fortunate to have received the NROTC scholarship and looks forward to being part of the Navy family at Michigan. He will make contact with the unit when he visits again in late April. Thanks for sharing the information on the Unit XO. So great to have a message board like this one to learn more about NROTC program.

Nice to have so many options but my DD is probably still a USMA lean even though she would be a legacy at Villanova. One thing that is for certain is the beating that my Cats put on BigBlue last night!
 
@NovaGrad OUCH! That was a whooping for sure. Villanova is hosting a color guard competition in a couple weeks and Michigan's team will be there. I guess the host unit will have some bragging rights.

Pass the salt for the crow please. Tough game to watch but if your in it for the wins you just have to be in it for the losses.

Really tough going into the playoffs, 33 was slow and Mac could not get his stick on the ice.... some rust on the defense; sure hope they can get up to speed in the next week. Panthers are not going to go easy
 
To go blue dad! I am a Michigan alum. My son got in the engineering school and stayed w some amazing NROTC at Michigan. Great group of kids and I wish him well! We also got into USNA. Did not yet receive an NROTC scholarship so prob heading to Annapolis. Bummer about the game. They looked so good starting out.

It's all good. Lightning lost 3 of 4 against Boston this year. Lightning just needed to get back on the right track before the playoffs start. Also need 91 back on the ice...
 
Congrats to your DS @proudmom13. Great accomplishment on getting an appointment at USNA. We wish him the best for next year.

Thanks for the feedback on Michigan ROTC. Love the positive feedback. Tough game on Monday but Nova looked unbeatable. Now time to turn our attention to the Frozen Four. Go Blue!

If your DS has not heard yet one way or the other there is still time. I saw a few posts that some were denied NROTC so hang in there and all the very best.

Remember whatever the outcome there is no reason to be bummed. After watching all 3 of my children go through this from being turned down to accepted to shocked accepted you just don’t know what is being looked at. Lots of really great kids to decide from.

Each year is a little different. The few number of boards this year for NROTC. was a little more different. AFROTC has gone to awarding scholarships earlier, this has an indirect impact on the way things workout for other options.

There a number of people sitting on multiple appointments and ROTC scholarships.
One person's decision can free up multiple appointments and scholarships.

They plan for this. But some years, for whatever reason, they all break one way.
That leaves no room for X, but opens doors at Y and Z.

It is very similar to being waitlisted at a school.
Some years they pull 100 kids off the wait list, some years zero.

You are already seeing some of this on this board. All RD admissions are out. People are accepting schools and scholarships. Each service is trying to fill slots.

Long way to say, be patient, keep your powder dry and be ready to flex. Don't give up. Search late April to May posts in previous years. You will see many successful outcomes.

DS has been very lucky with Academy opportunities at this point. No "denial" yet for NROTC seems he is still in the game. Just want him to have all the facts and offers in front of him to be sure he's making the best decision. He applied to all and was accepted to all colleges he listed on his NROTC application.
