My friend's daughter was just admitted to USMAPS. She will be attending after 3 years out of high school. Her high school was not academically challanging. She has time off between now and July. Any advice on how to prepare coursewise? Do you have to take the SATs again even if you score meets USMA requirements? Also are there tutors to help once you get there? Any advice would be appreciated.

I’m my opinion, there’s not much she can do to prepare for the coursework.
Yes, she will have to retake the SAT.
All instructors at USMAPS want to see the cadet candidates succeed. Informal tutors will develop in each of the companies, and the faculty makes themselves available to provide additional instruction as needed.
My advice is to focus on getting into the best physical condition as possible. Run, do push-ups, do sit-ups, repeat.

Thanks for your response! What percentage of USMAPS graduates get directly into USMA the following July?

It depends. There’s a myth that circulates indicating all USMAPS graduates get in. It’s only a myth. The reported figure is somewhere in the 80’s. Some Cadet Candidates (CC) decide USMA is not for them, and some CCs fail either academics or the physical standards for admission. Those CCs in danger of not meeting the admissions standards are kept abreast of their status all year long. It’s not a surprise to them in May. And, unfortunately, some run afoul of the discipline standards and are not offered admission to USMA. Hope that helps.

Yes, seems like they start off with 230+ and around 190+ get appointments

The three weeks of Cadet Candidate Basic Training are very demanding with 6 weeks of Cadet Basic Training condensed into 3 with little down time. They ruck, ruck and then ruck some more. More preparation would pay off practicing rucking versus running.
