TWE

TWE for self here in CA-38 today. I have already been prepping myself for this, and have been looking into Plans B and C. Good luck to all those that are going to reapply. CLASS OF 2023.

When you receive the TWE, does that mean you are also no longer eligible for a Falcon Scholarship?
You can still get a FS. Saw a post from ‘In The Know’ and it was stated that those can go out as late as early June. The majority of the FS have been offered, but there is a high declination rate because many don’t understand that a FS is a ‘golden ticket’ for the next year or choose to go with their Plan B. However, there are only 60 that will be offered this year, so the chances are slim. I don’t have stats about USAFA prep, so I cannot address that possibility.

Yeah rejection szn is really strong this time of year, TWE here in KS-03, but I was expecting it anyway, still learned a lot through the whole process, so at least I got something out of it. Good Luck to all and congratulations to those who got in, you've earned it.

Brand new here and to this whole process, but the TWE came for son today....tough - he has a 4.1GPA and a 1430SAT, NHS Board, JROTC honors, 2 congressional noms....hard to take
> what is MMI?
> are there schools that look to TWEs as a source for scholarships? It would seem that the AFA did a deep scrub and schools would look for these cream of the crop kids....
> What is the process get into the Falcon or the Prep School?
> He is already accepted at Embry Riddle and Texas A&M with a $72K scholarship, but if he picks E/R, his scholarships converts to a 3 year(??) while TAMU is a four year deal. Does E/R have a way to soften the tuition blow the first year - it is substantial even after he got a $60k ($15K/year)
Opinions matter - thanks for yours!

Call the ERAU AFROTC office and ask about their incentives for ROTC scholarship recipients. DS got a TWE from USAFA this morning, but he has a Type 2 AFROTC scholarship. ERAU also gave him a merit scholarship which he can use along with the AFROTC scholarship. In addition ERAU gives $15,000 to help offset tuition for the first year, and then $5000 for years 2, 3, and 4. You still have to pay room and board but tuition isn't so bad.

To the parents asking about prep schools and foundation scholarships, please do some research on the forum and see what is best for you. A spot at the Academy Prep school as well as a sponsored scholarship at a civilian prep school is basically a golden ticket. You do your part and you will get an offer next year.

Attending one of the prep schools on your own is an entire different discussion. There are many paths to re-applying, but the path with the fewest obstacles is a four year college while participating in ROTC.

Will do the research - thanks for the tips!

To those of you who received a TWE this morning, I can promise you that if USAFA is what you really want your journey is not over. I too received a TWE last year. I was devastated. However, I took an honest look at my application and saw what areas needed improvement. I decided to self prep at MMI this year and honestly it was probably one of the best decisions of my life, no kidding. I know that if I am blessed with an appointment this year I will be way more prepared compared to if I had went straight out of high school. Additionally, I met some great friends this year that I will have for a lifetime. This year was a tremendous opportunity for me. I'm not going to lie, the next few days might be tough. However, IT WILL BE OKAY!

Please feel free to PM me with any questions about MMI, self prepping, reapplying, or anything else!

Do you already have an appointment? What will you do next year if the twe comes?

No, I haven't heard back yet. However, if I receive a TWE I will enlist and try and get in through the LEAD Program!
Curious, why wouldnt you go through Rotc. You can still apply to the SA while at Rotc and at worst you will commission anyway in four years

My son is on a AROTC scholarship. Part of Ranger Challenge Team his freshman year. Having a blast, making great friends and learning a great deal. Can not say enough about ROTC. Don’t discount it, and as said above...you commission in 4 years just like you do from a SA.

I believe that Raptor22 was referring to Marion Military Institute. They as well as a number of other Prep Schools have a good success rate at helping re-applicants improve their chances of attaining an appointment. Although, given your DS has Embry Riddle as well as Texas AM, there is nothing stopping him from going to one of those and reapplying from there. I have no first hand experience with this, but I expect that academically, Embry Riddle and Texas A&M would be better for one's application package. However, if fitness was a weakness then the Prep Schools might be of greater assistance. They are also more focused on helping the applicant prepare a more compelling application package.

My DS got one, too. Feeling pretty sad.

Did not get in to the other two SA's he applied to either. Besides his SAT scores he should have been everything they could want. Like everything. (#1 in class, always had a 4.0, taking college classes, Mr. Leadership, runner- everything.)

This is one of the times being from a tiny town is hard- there are many less opportunities for harder classes and test prep than larger areas.

Sorry, feeling pretty bitter today. It will be better tomorrow, then we start to prep ourselves for the torture of waiting for yet another year.

Plan B and C are expensive. They don't tell you about this stuff in the baby books.

Looks like my DS will not be going to the AFA this year. Really sad for him because every decision he has made from a very early age, has been to prepare himself through leadership, academics and athletics. We really thought that he had the total package. He will try again next year. Good Luck to all that received the TWE today. Be proud and stay strong!!!

At MMI, cadets participate in AFROTC weekly with other cadets at University of Alabama. MMI is a junior college, so cadets in SAP gain 36 college credits, there is also a Flight training program, cadets can earn their pilots license at a very inexpensive rate.

I hear you! Every desicion he made...Getting geared up all day for plan B though. DS knows he can improve on academics and that is the plan.

He will do well wherever he goes....it is like the other kids who received a TWE this week - in a lot of cases, these are stellar kids who do everything right got their first rejections and are reacting to that...the truth is that these kids are stars, the best out there, but just couldn't fit within the slots. There will be benefits to going other places that they wouldn't get at the SA. I wasn't half the kid my son is...I couldn't be prouder....
Thanks for the answers, folks...
