TWE

Today is certainly a sad day - to everyone that received a TWE, I truly believe that if USAFA is your dream - don't give up! Believe in yourself and you're dream and use the time from now and next year's application to make positive changes in your status - higher test scores, a year at prep school, Plan B with AFROTC, etc - whatever is best for you. Each of you will come back stronger and have a great chance next year! You are all amazing and best of luck!

Co-06 here but received a senator nomination,
Received TWE this morning. Genuinely not surprised because if they would've wanted me, they would've told me earlier this year. It is extremely surprising to see the kids who were told no this year. I did Summer Seminar, have a 4.0+ GPA, decent SAT/ACT scores, varsity captain, minority, and TONS of leadership but if my competition was a kid that got a 1500 on the SAT, has a 4.6 GPA, was at Summer Seminar, State Champ of whatever sport, and also had tons of leadership then I applaud us all, especially since some of these kids were told no who rank so much higher above the average standards. My heart goes out to the kids who were 3Q'ed and had 3 nominations but still were told no. I guess we can't change their decision now but regardless, we survived it all.

My DS got one, too. Feeling pretty sad.

Did not get in to the other two SA's he applied to either. Besides his SAT scores he should have been everything they could want. Like everything. (#1 in class, always had a 4.0, taking college classes, Mr. Leadership, runner- everything.)

This is one of the times being from a tiny town is hard- there are many less opportunities for harder classes and test prep than larger areas.

Sorry, feeling pretty bitter today. It will be better tomorrow, then we start to prep ourselves for the torture of waiting for yet another year.

Plan B and C are expensive. They don't tell you about this stuff in the baby books.

Sometimes it can simply come down to politics and/or what state/district you are from. My DS got into his first choice SA prep school and his classmate got directly into the same SA with lower SAT scores, lower GPA (less than a 3.0 last quarter), one sport, no school leadership positions, however he did do an internship for the governor of his state and the governor wrote a recommendation for him and he's from a very non-competitive state. My DS wanted prep so it's not a big deal to him and his classmate is a very nice, respectable young man and we are very happy for him. It's just a testament to who you know goes a long way. We have great kids and they should not measure their self worth based on the results of this process. There are a lot more pieces to the puzzle that we do not see and many of them have nothing to do with stats.

At least for my area and my congressman, knowing the actually senator/representative has absolutely no bearing on nominations. The congressman/woman hires a committee who are normally vets, active-duty, or just local businessmen. These people interview and score your package as a whole and the top 10 normally get nominations. This keeps the integrity of the process so no there is minimal bias.

To those of you who received a TWE this morning, I can promise you that if USAFA is what you really want your journey is not over. I too received a TWE last year. I was devastated. However, I took an honest look at my application and saw what areas needed improvement. I decided to self prep at MMI this year and honestly it was probably one of the best decisions of my life, no kidding. I know that if I am blessed with an appointment this year I will be way more prepared compared to if I had went straight out of high school. Additionally, I met some great friends this year that I will have for a lifetime. This year was a tremendous opportunity for me. I'm not going to lie, the next few days might be tough. However, IT WILL BE OKAY!

Please feel free to PM me with any questions about MMI, self prepping, reapplying, or anything else!

Do you already have an appointment? What will you do next year if the twe comes?

No, I haven't heard back yet. However, if I receive a TWE I will enlist and try and get in through the LEAD Program!
@Raptor 22 - Please let us know how it turns out - I-m sure that many of us on this page are routing for you!

Sad day in my heart. I Received my TWE in my portal around 3am. It was Hard To break the news to my parents in the afternoon. We have a positive outlook and feel strong on the Airforce Core values. As an American with a Hispanic back-ground I can reassure you that my future is brighter than ever.Thank you God for allowing me to get this far. One question. So my TWE only mentioned that I didn’t get a appointment but didn’t say anything about prep school nor Falcon scholarship. Would some say no offers about PS or FS on TWE??

Stay tuned.... It could happen. But don't count on it. Watch your email. Check your portal. But, it's on to Plan B for you now, make that your focus. There's always next year.

I hope that you do not mean that it was hard for you to break the news to your parents because you didn't want to disappoint them, or some similar feeling. Because there are LITERALLY no words that can even express how PROUD I am sure they are of you whether you received an appointment today or not. These young people going through this grueling process, to serve their countries, are ALL my hero's! No way could I have ever done what everyone I see here on the forums has accomplished in just (about) a year, and all that was required leading up to this point! Seriously, we are all proud of you. The TWE only means "not yet". If that's what you want. Your parents are proud of you. Keep your chin up!! And thank you!

The LEAD program is a good option. My son received his appointment yesterday he is in the Air Force Reserve. Where there is a will there is a way!

Our Senator does the same thing- puts a committee together who reviews the applications, does the interviews, and decides. He said he did not know who the 10 nominees were until his committee handed him the list. There is probably still occasional nepotism but it seems the MOC’s try hard to keep personal connections completely out of the process.

Also keep in mind that any rep can only have 5 appointee's at an Academy at a time.

Actually, I was not talking about the nomination process, I said that the governor gave him a recommendation. I just wanted to clarify this. I am not questioning the fairness of the nomination process.

I am so sorry to hear this. DS received a TWE on April 7, 2016 and his letter mentioned no prep school option either. 3 weeks later he received an email with an offer for Falcon Foundation Scholarship which he took to NWP. His is now Class of 2021 and about to finish his first year. I have absolutely no insight into when all Falcon offers are coming this year....good luck!

I just checked my portal and I was notified in Jan about additional medical information needed. I was granted a extension back in November and thought that was the case with information needed. Now I’m concerned if this was a big factor on decision. Is this a Medical examination Board issue?

I am confused what happened and what you are asking...do you mean that AMI's were requested in January and you never provided that information? And are you saying that you had not checked your portal at all from January until April?

It’s all taken care of now, it was a mistake on my end! Ami is clear now and Qualified status. Still hoping for A PS or FS.
