Norwich University - New Parents

Norwich is still Plan B for DS but he received an email inviting him to apply for the new Honors degree in information Assurance and the community service scholarship (another $3k a year). Without NROTC his financial package is now only $6k out of pocket if he gets this new package.

Now that he is CPR for USNA and having Norwich now as a Plan B and C, he and breathing easy and feeling excited.

What are the recommendations for being prepared for the August drop off of Rooks? (Time frames to be aware of.... things you wish someone had told you about....)?

For those with scholarship drop off is the Friday before Rook arrival Sunday.
There is a dinner Friday night but nothing else until the Rook arrival ceremony Sunday,

Are you on FB? There's an "unofficial" Norwich cadet moms group that has been so helpful.

Coming from a current senior cadet:

-On arrival day, try to arrive early to avoid excessive traffic trying to get onto the Upper Parade Ground. Parking also is easier the earlier you come.
-Make the most of the time with your rook. At the ceremony you only have about 3-4 minutes to say goodbye.

My DS will be joining Norwich Class of 2022! I am so proud, yet it is bittersweet! We are from Tennessee, anything that anyone could provide about Vermont and adapting to a New England lifestyle that would benefit him (and us) would be greatly appreciated. I have found this forum very useful and it has already answered some questions that I have had. Also, can he wear long johns or thermals under his uniform during the winter?

Keep this in mind. I just left the campus. It’s was snowing today.

But will be in the 50's 60's next week. Welcome to east coast / North east weather. Nothing is a given until May :)

@sad16480 In FB search on Norwich University. You'll see a bunch of FB groups. If it's in there it seems like it would be in that group of pages.

some of them are closed groups that won't show up on a search.
upon enrollment admissions will send you information regarding these groups.

Thank you. I tried that route, but didn't see it. Maybe it is one of the closed groups. My DS just joined the student page... he is already making great connections!

My son returned a couple of weeks ago from the NU Experience. Spent a couple of nights with a cadet host. Ran into a former high school classmate. Attended a chemistry class and overall had a fantastic experience meeting future cadets that were also visiting, speaking to some of the faculty chairs, the ROTC staff, etc. Now we are trying to coordinate a summer road trip to Vermont to he can arrive by Friday and get settled.

Grats! My son was there, too, flew in solo Thursday morning and left Sunday. He will be flying for Arrival Day solo, too. Saving visits for Parent Weekend and for after recognition. Looking forward to the journey!
