NROTC scholarships

No update for us either, but we are a college programmer, so not making any college decisions at this point.

It's my experience that they always send a reply. DS initially got his via email 7 years ago. In any case though, be sure you execute plan B in time for the May 1 deadlines if you haven't heard anything by the date you think you need to do this. If a later offer comes through it seems to me the worst case is you're out of a deposit. Small change in the total cost of tuition.

EDIT: Make sure your applicant has checked the spam folders in case an email is there.

Results from last weeks board are posted for all those waiting anxiously! My DS just checked and was offered the scholarship! Now, just has to choose AROTC or NROTC

My DS checked last night and was offered the NROTC scholarship to his #1 choice. We are so proud of him! Now he has to choose a 3 year Army or a 4 year Navy, both at the same school. Despite being all into the Army the last several weeks he is now singing Anchors aweigh.

My DS had already figured on not being awarded NROTC scholarship so she paid for her non ROTC school first choice. Today she was awarded scholarship. OY her mind was made up. Now what.

@jkf What do you mean her mind was made up. SHe had made up her mind to attend the college where she made the deposit? Or does she now want to go the the college that the scholarship was awarded for? OY doesn't convey much meaning to me. Sorry I'm so dense.

@kinnem Yes she had figured she was not getting NROTC scholarship so we paid and accepted another school. Now she was excited to go to this school and today found out about the scholarship. I believe it is an NROTC school so she can request a change of placement but would they also request a change of major form Tier 1- tier 3. Doesn't say what she was awarded but originally thought she would major in bio chem now wants communications?

Your daughter just has to decide what she wants. If both schools have NROTC she can probably transfer the scholarship. Changing majors from tier 1 to tier 3 requires permission and is generally not allowed. Keep in mind I said generally and not never.

If both schools have NROTC and she really wants the communications major, then she could enroll in NROTC at that college without the benefit of the scholarship. She might be able to re-earn a scholarship at that unit, but it's never guaranteed and generally harder for tier 3 majors. The Navy wants about 85% of its officers to be tier 1 or 2 majors.

It might be worth a phone call to the NROTC unit at each school to get their input and guidance.

Most (not all) schools will refund an over payment of tuition, once the NROTC money arrives. Getting a refund, if she changes back to the other school may prove more difficult.

No update for us :(:(:(:(
Not us either. Still no decision has been made.
Us too, in it till the end! The board meets this week I understand. Could be waiting on word either way till May 15.
Where did you hear that they are boarding this week?
On a previous post someplace. Someone called the NROTC Scholarship office in Pensacola and that is what they were told--per the post. Also said that the Office told them that last board results should be posted by May 15.

We're still waiting, too. I know of a couple of people in our school giving up their scholarships for one reason or another, so here's hoping they trickle down to the rest of us in the next few weeks. It's so nice to know we're not alone in this process. We've (finally!) confirmed the school now, so I suppose there is the possibility of this all being for naught.
