USMMA Indoc day prep

I’ve been a JROTC cadet for 4 years, so I already know the basics of drill, but would it be better to act clueless so I don’t get singled out?

IMHO, no - don't act clueless. You don't want to call attention to yourself, but it is okay for the cadre to know you are a capable plebe.
Don't show off, but try to help others in your company who are having trouble with the basics.

Go for subtle and humble

Hello,

Does the academy expect any standards on hair when showing up to the academy on June 29th? The logging in book said there are different standards for hair during indoc and after it.

My hair is nothing crazy right now, (dyes/extremely long hair). I just haven’t had a haircut in months, and I think it would be fun to just grow it out until I get my free haircut.

Thanks!

I am an incoming plebe. I hear a lot of people advising us to stay ‘below the radar’. The same people say that the Academy life is ‘what you make out of it’. I understand that I need to stay humble and not butt heads with anyone, but I also don’t want to be unknown by my cadre and peers. I feel like I could enjoy it more if I do little things that we could joke about later, even if it means receiving extra PT or getting chewed out. I already closely know 4 midshipmen who will be running my indoc, so being discrete probably isn’t an option anyways. Does anyone have any suggestions on the matter? Should I strive to have a bit of fun during Indoc or should I try to get by the easiest way possible?

Good luck with that

This will happen on its own without any effort on your part.

See above ... any fun had on your part generally falls into one of two categories

1. Reflecting on events after the fact
2. The humor of the situation revolves around someone other than you

I have many humorous memories falling into category 1. ... some of them are also in category 2.

Wow, you guys are way overthinking this. Show up. Do what you are told. Work together. Accept that no matter what you do or say, you're wrong. Get through it and get on with the real stuff. Indoc represents a few weeks of the next four years, and when it's over nobody really cares except to laugh about it.

Go ahead, then. Be a comedian. . . everyone likes one or two of them at restriction musters. Lightens the mood. . . . .

At the Coast Guard Academy, they tell tales of a swab who showed up for R-day in a limo, wearing a tuxedo, and with two girls in evening gowns carrying his luggage. The Cadre didn't see the humor in it, but word is he graduated, and he is and forever will be an all time legend.

There's your bar - see if you can raise it!

No plebe is going to be on restriction his first trimester or after indoc unless he somehow brings alcohol to indoc.

Wow. I missed the first Plebe Liberty because I was restricted. . .and didn't have booze on board. . .saved that for later years. . . and never got caught. . .

In the personal gear list it says "6 white towels" - are those all bath towels?

Also, in order to create an account it asks for a DOD#?

Yes those are all bath towels. You should be getting a generic dod# to use, but I'm not sure what it is because I think it is different for each class.

I just tried calling NEX to place an order but she said it had to be done by email. I sent an email two days ago but haven't gotten a response. Are there order forms?
