Does anyone have information on this summer's training plan for Marine Option 2/C mids. First, mountain warfare was cancelled. DS heard amphib cruise would be provided, but this didn't pan out. Next was told, he would be assigned to a Marine Corps unit training for deployment. So far no order or any information.

Oh, it's way too early for orders. That probably won't happen until sometime in June... at least that's our experience. Am[hib cruise would be great if it comes through but so would hanging with a unit that's getting ready to deploy. DS did an amphib cruise while his classmates went to Mt. Warfare. Long story... but he ended up joining the Order of the Ditch.
Amphib cruise or doing a fleet tour would great. Get exposure to the real Marine Corps and a variety of MOSs. Even if attached to an Arty unit they still have supply, logistics, adjutant, intel, comms. Also Lts tend To have friends in a variety of units so if he is really interested in a specific MOSs most Lts can reach out to a buddy and set them up with a few days to get some exposure.

Well, the 2/c mids in my son's unit were told they could possibly be assigned to an infantry battalion that will be assigned the task of training foreign military units. The mids would be used as trainees in order to give the active duty unit training experience before they deploy.

My mid is hearing the exact same thing. Last I heard was a possible fleet tour with tanks (what she listed as first choice), and if that didn’t happen it would be the amphib cruise. Still nothing concrete. She will just be happy to do something - anything!

They WILL get assignments and all will be fine. Sounds like HQ USMC is struggling to find an easy substitute to Mtn Warfare but they will find something. During my time with an Infantry unit we had short notice assignments to train Reserve units and foreign officers. I am sure Uncle SAM will find something for them to do that will be meaningful and impactful.

I don't think any of this discussion has wandered out of bound,s but I do want to remind everyone to beware of violating OPSEC. I certainly don't see any critical information posted here, but would like folks to keep it in mind. I'm always reminded of how DS will tell me not to mention anything, or more often now, not even tell me. He goes off for a month... I don't know he's leaving... I don't hear from him... don't know when he'll return... don't know where he is.. etc. Let's keep it that way for everyone.
The 2/C's from my previous unit are all mixed up. One going to CORTAMID, one going to Oman for Project GO, and one abstaining from cruise since the USMC didn't have anywhere for him to go. Seems like if you want to go amphib you can request it, but if you want to work at starbucks this summer you can do that as well.

That's too bad. The Corps should have done a better job of lining things up. I don't see why they couldn't send the eastern guys to Lejeune for something and the western guys to Pendleton. Or send them all to 29 Palms to experience the high desert and enjoy the sight of Joshua Trees... with the occasional run into Palm Springs. I'm disappointed and I'm sure many a Marine Option midshipmen is too. BTW.... amphib cruises are great. That's what DS did between sophomore and junior year. Got an Order of the Ditch certificate to prove it.

That's cool. Getting exposed to Quantico now will help when he gets to OCS. Tell him to try the bulgogi at "My Deli" in Q-town.
