Question about the formal application. I filled out the preliminary application, and had a a very positive experience at the CVW earlier in April.

I wanted to know when the formal application will be available? I was told I would have an email sent sometime in May with further instructions. Just making sure I have accurate information.

I’m very eager to get the application process going. I’ve already reached out to my appropriate elected officials, have been in contact with my local B&G Officer, and am getting in shape for the CFA.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don’t want to leave any stone unturned as I go through the process.

It's May 1.. if the word is sometime in May, you have 31 days to wait....
I'm not trying to be flippant, and I appreciate your eagerness, but USNA is still putting the finishing touches on the Class of 2022, and start turning their attention on 2023.
Just looked back into my emails, and it looks like it was close to May 31 /June 1 last year (based upon flurry of new Candidate assignments), but that doesn't mean it won't be earlier or later this year.

Thank you... I was just trying to get an idea of how it works...

It's okay. There is nothing wrong with jumping all over it early. Try to keep up the intensity. It's a LONG road to an Offer of Appointment.
If you're very lucky, you will find out in December or January. Don't miss any nomination application deadlines!

Begin getting in touch with your english and math teachers and let them know you intend on applying and will require a recommendation from them.

DS received an email informing him of candidate status on May 10th last year. Doesn’t mean it will be the same this year, but can’t imagine it being a whole lot different from year to year. Enjoy the process...

Strongly agree here, we found that once school was out most teachers are fairly detached. One that my DS had requested a recommendation from left and that request had to be reset, and our admissions officer was rotating out so it took awhile. Be diligent and patient (hurry up and wait!!). Even with preparing his teachers it took a fair amount of nudging.

My DD applied for NASS o/a 21 Jan. She was accepted but declined because she wanted to go to SLE and Girls State instead. If she went to NASS, then she would have been away for 3 straight weeks this summer.

Today, she got an email from the USNA informing her she is an official candidate. The email included a username, password, and candidate #.

Happy ECandidate Packet Letter Day !
My DS received his email today, and was thrilled. So, naturally I was thrilled with him. But, I'm not sure what it means. Only kids that get an email are allowed to apply?
Anyone can apply. However, an initial online preliminary application is reviewed, and if the applicant meets certain admissions criteria, they then become an official candidate that can continue onto the full application. They then get access to the USNA portal.
