So basically I received a letter from the Vice President saying that he was nominating me to the Military Academy today, but when I checked my portal it said that I had updated correspondence which stated that I had been rejected.

Both the nomination and the correspondence are dated today on my portal, so does this mean it's over?

I wasn't even thinking that there was any chance of getting a nomonnomin anymore so I'm a bit confused.

The processes for the nomination and an appointment are separate. If on West Point's portal it says you were rejected, I'm afraid that's it for this year. Definitely try again though!

Contact an official point of contact to be sure of your situation.

In the case of the VP nom, I believe the SA chooses who gets that tiny handful, and lets the VP’s staffer know. I find it odd a VP nom would be expended on you, and then a notification of non-offer arrives in the same timeframe. If you had no other noms, I can understand a TWE.

It is always best to go to an official source, especially for final decisions such as this, as most comments here on SAF are simply opinions, informed or otherwise. Get your 100% answer, let us know, because this is unusual, and good luck.

I'm pretty sure I read in the past that a VP nomination is given to anyone that applies for it, but WP only uses it for a small number of CCs. If the VP nom is your only nomination, and your portal has the "TWE," it sounds like this is the end of the road for this cycle. Good luck with your Plan B and if you decide to apply again. Contact your RC or FFR to find out where you need to improve.

i thought VP noms were used with discretion by the SAs.... definitely reach out to WP....

The VP has 1 seat (10 nominations) and that is it. The nominees are selected by the academies, although the VP could choose to make the selections if he wanted.

These nominations are scarce and are normally given to those candidates that the academy wants to appoint, but have no other nominations. Getting a VP Nom and a TWE means that all other prospective appointees had a nomination or something got screwed up.

I second Capt MJ's advice to contact an official source - for USMA that would be your Regional Commander RC.

Thank you guys for replying. I just contacted my liasion so hopefully I'll receive good news, if not I'll just continue with my plan B which is an AFROTC scholarship.

Are you sure you do not mean presidential nominations? Vice presidential are highly competitive as far as I know.

No, as time2 noted with the links, a Presidential nomination requires a parent with x number of years military service. A VP nom is available to anyone that fills out the application but a very small number of cadet candidates' are appointed using the VP nom.

Well the final update from my liasion is that I was selected to receive the nomination but I was not the one out of the ten candidates who was selected to be appointed to fill the vacancy.

BUMMER! I was rooting for you!
I was just honored to get that nomination because I thought it was all over having received rejections from USNA and USAFA. I guess theoretically if the person selected to fill the vacancy rejected it I may still have a shot but that's probably an even slimmer chance than actually getting a nomination. For now I'm just going to focus on plan B and think about reapplying in the next few months.

Great recovery. You were clearly in play to the end. Keep that resiliency going.
