Five years ago, DS announced his plan to apply for an AFROTC scholarship and become a pilot in the Air Force. We have no military people in our family so at that time I had no idea what lay ahead. Also, I was not sure if he would really follow through with this plan.

Along the way, I discovered this forum. I read a lot and learned a lot. In the rare instance that someone posted a question I knew the answer to that had not already been answered I tried to help.

Today we reached the end of the beginning. We attended his commissioning ceremony where to our surprise he was awarded distinguished graduate. He earned the pilot slot he wanted and will be off to pilot training later this year. It was a really wonderful day and he made his whole family proud. This of course is only the beginning of a great adventure he has embarked on.

Thanks to everyone active on this forum for posting questions and answers. This place has been my go to for information when I needed it. Thanks to everyone who asked questions that I was thinking about but did not ask myself. Thanks to the few old hands on this forum who reliably respond with their wisdom.

Finally, good luck to all who are just starting this journey. Don't let anyone else's doubts deter you. With determination and hard work your dreams can come true as well.

Congrats. I feel your pride through the IPad screen. I know how you feel.

Congratulations, and best of luck to the pilot in training in the next chapter!!

Congratulations to your DS...I always tell my boys.."believe in your dreams, they were given to you for a reason". I also can feel your love and pride..Wishing all the best to your family.

+1 to AROTC-dad. Congratulations! Nothing better than watching your kid commission. I might change my mind about that if mine ever gets married, or has children, but so far....

Congrats!

Mine will graduate/commission in 2019 and aviation is still on the table for them...

Ncbill, good luck going forward. I hope yours get what they want.

Congratulations and thank your DS for his service! We are just beginning this adventure as our DS will be joining AFROTC this Fall. Love this forum!
