Congratulations, That is great news. We hope to join you on that list soon.
 
None of the people still on the undecided list are still undecided. Either they made a decision to accept their appointment by May 1st or decline by May 1st. If they didn’t make a decision on their own, the academy rescinded the appointment. May 1 was the cutoff date to let the academy know your intention.

The list includes those who haven’t reported back their decision. I only include them in the hope that they will let us know. In real life, there are no ‘Undecideds’.

UNDECIDED- Did you ever decide but haven't UPDATED yet? Or are you going to another academy?
 
Guys, finally got a confirmation. Received word from Lt. Wheeler that I received my appointment from USMMA. Now I am left to choose between the Air Force Academy and Merchant Marine Academy. I have a few days to weigh the options and make a choice. I am leaning more towards USMMA since I am very interested in the Maritime industry and the ability to select branch for commission but the resources offered at the Air Force Academy are also very enticing. Ultimately however I am far more concerned with what happens after the academy than just the 4 years spent there. Any thoughts on this situation?

Most people who apply to more than one academy have given their order of preference serious consideration before mid-May, only a month before they have orders to report. Didn't you have to rank the academies to which you applied when you asked for nominations? What has changed since then? Have you visited both schools? I guess I am wondering why you are still undecided when you have had at least a full year to do your research on the schools and available career options.

Air Force and Merchant Marine are pretty far apart in the career paths that are offered. If you know you want to serve in the Air Force when you graduate and you have been accepted to USAFA, this decision should be easy.

Have you considered what course of study you would like to pursue? I assume you know that USMMA has a total of 5 majors, all specifically geared to the maritime industry. Does one of those majors interest you enough that you want to devote 4 grueling years studying those subjects? None of the majors at Kings Point will be very helpful in the Air Force. Most who go active duty from USMMA choose sea-related services, though Air Force and Army are usually available also.

What concerns me is your comment regarding the "resources" available at USAFA. Kings Point is a Division III school with around 1,000 students, so trying to compare "resources" with a Division I school with around 4,000 students does not make much sense to me. It sounds from your post that, although you are impressed with the options available to USMMA grads, you have already decided you would not be happy at Kings Point and you are doubtful about a future in the maritime industry. Just my two cents from how your post sounds to me. Good luck with your decision.

@gigatryke , I see in an earlier post that you had accepted USAFA as you had to accept or lose it, even though USMMA was your #1 choice. I second @kpmom2013 comments and think that perhaps because you've been putting your efforts into getting ready for USAFA, you have become invested in your future there. You are in a very enviable position with two great choices. They are, however, very very different academies from each other. I believe at this point you know which one suits you better and which one you should go to. Congrats on both your appointments, now go do the right thing!
