MOC nominations application just opened and closes in early fall. DS is very involved in local community service, BSA, church group, veteran affairs, etc. MOC attended his Eagle Scout COH so strong sense of community. Heres my dilemma. We are downsizing and move would be across state line. No change with school or kids activities but could be as early as Jan/feb. Would this compromise MOC nomination if ds was to receive one? Also. Why do MOC offer temporarily address on application?

The temporary address could be for a military family stationed outside the state, but they are residents of that state and district for voting purposes, and the son or daughter is seeking a nom. Ditto Dept of State families stationed out of the country, and similar situations.

Much will depend on the MOC and Senators’ timetables. Some hold their interviews and decide on their slates well before the early 2019 deadline. Some go down to the wire. If you are already moved before the decision is made - i don’t know how that plays out for both the elected official’s internal guidelines for residency eligibility and the SA, when your son officially resides in another state. I would think primary sources are best to research for a definitive answer.

I agree that it’s best to contact the MOC coordinator for each source your DS plans to apply to. I imagine if you don’t plan to move until 2019, he would apply where you currently live.

^^ Agreed. The issue requiring clarification would be if you are relocating during the MOC application process. If you move AFTER you get a NOM, then it won't really matter. MOC has to submit NOM's by 1/31 for each application cycle. If you move BEFORE the application window opens, then your legal residence at the time the application is submitted determines where to apply. As mentioned above, if not sure, contact your MOC for clarification. In either case, you can't apply to BOTH in an effort to 'game' the system.

Thank you responding. Please let me make clear at no time had 'gaming' the system been the intent nor had applying in both states. Quite the opposite. Compromising the legality of a nomination is a serious concern and thought best to seek advise instead of assume.
