My DS has bookmarked various things to order for Beast, including a pair of Fox River compression socks. I asked if those are the boot socks and he said no, he thought they were the sock liners. I asked if he was sure and he said no. So what are sock liners? I’ve read comments where people said they didn’t use them at all so I don’t want to waste money if they aren’t useful. I also read a comment that said you can use the black socks they give you as your sock liners, but um, isn’t that just wearing two pairs of socks?

Hello, I am also going to Beast in a few weeks and hope I could help you out.
Sock liners are a thinner, base-layer sock worn under the primary sock . They’re usually composed of light and smooth material such as nylon or silk to reduce friction and absorb moisture in hiking boots or hiking shoes. Honestly, they may help if one is prone to foot blisters, but I personally believe a high quality sock such as Fox River will suffice.
That is just my opinion though, only having rucked 10 miles max in one setting.

You'll find differing opinions on this one. My DS swears by them. He used them for all his long scout hikes and rarely had blisters. He bought his liners at REI.

My guys never used sock liners. So, it maybe a nice to have versus a must have. If you have hiked with Scouts or something like that--then you know what you need for your feet.
For my guys it was just one less thing to carry, maintain, and store.

A quick google search revealed this, which is essentially a repeat of owl17.
Sock liners are made of a thin polyester or lightweight wool material that help wick sweat away from your feet. You wear them under your thicker hiking sock and are mainly recommended as a preventive measure to getting blisters.
Google is your friend.

Oh you’re right. Must have been a glitch. Everything is fixed now :tank1:
