Newbies to the SA process here. My DS just finished his junior year and is interested in the USCGA. I think he is a competitive candidate, but I am obviously biased.
All advice is welcome. :)
Stats:

GPA: 3.8W 3.3 UW
SAT: 700 Math 580 Reading - is taking again in Aug to boost reading score

ECs:
2 sport varsity athlete, Captain in one sport Junior and Senior year, 3 year varsity in that sport - will be contacting coach for that sport.
Travel sport team - We live in a rural community. Travels 4 hours round trip Sat. and Sun. March through May for competitive AAU team.
Robotics Club
CSF 3 years - honors society
Link Crew 2 years- leads orientation for incoming freshman

Volunteer work:
Great Strides Walk for CF Foundation
FCA spring break coach/camp counselor
Sierra Service Project

Have a plan B in place. Most will need it. My DD is awesome with good statistics (also very biased here), but was unsuccessful getting an appointment for class of 2022. So plan B is a must! The quality of people applying for these positions is very impressive indeed.

Looks good so far! Make sure he is in contact with the coaches and his Admissions officer. Have him fill out a recruited athlete survey to give them an idea of his stats. If possible, go for one of the admissions briefs and/or Cadet For a Day so you can get questions answered and you can meet different people who may be helpful. Also contemplate if you want to apply for early action or regular admission. There are plenty of threads on it. If he can, he should start practicing the pfe (physical fitness exam) during the summer or at least do a diagnostic to see where he is at.

Hope this helps!

i would also suggest getting in leadership / team leader spots in his community services and non sports activities

For USCGA teacher recommendations,

Does anyone know if the ALL the teacher recommendations HAVE to be from junior year? Because I was planning on getting one of my recommendation from my sophomore English or sophomore World History teacher (I was teacher aide for the soph World History class).

And if so, can sophomore World History teacher recommendation be used as English/Humanities teachers? Because I still had equal amount of writings in my world history class as my English class.

This would be a great question to double check to make sure you can't find the answer and then call your admissions counselor about. Being in touch with admissions is an often overlooked but important part of the process and one that they take into consideration on the admissions boards.

My daughter received nominations to West Point & Air Force. Is currently attending Naval Academy Prep School, same one Coast Guard uses. If u like PM, I can give you a few clues that will help.

My DS has a very similar profile with some weaker areas. The whole family danced in joy and tears when he showed us his LOA from USCGA (conditional upon DoDMERB and final letters of recommendation.) We were so surprised because we did not even know that USCGA even offered LOA, let alone this early in the process. We were counting the days to Jan 15. What I know from the experience was that my DS was very passionate and demonstrated strong interest. He trained before and hustled at AIM#3. He researched all the requirements and contacted the Admin Officer from day one when the app opened with questions that he did not have answers. He spent all days locked in a room to write essays. I heard that submitting as early as possible does not matter. In this case, he submitted the app in less than 3 weeks.
