Questions regarding BCT and after

1. When sending mail to a cadet during BCT, should I add Basic Cadet to my DS's name?

2. After BCT, can they purchase all of their school supplies or should I have him get a box ready for me to ship for the beginning of classes?
 
1. Yes.
2. He can buy all the supplies he needs at the cadet store, or he might find it easier just to have a prearranged box. That honestly comes down to personal preference.

Last year we took our DS to pick up basic school supplies the weekend before BCT and then delivered to him on A-Day. Truth be told, this was probably just an excuse for DW and I to spend some quiet time with him before I-Day. We stretched it out to include dinner and focused the discussion on post-BCT courses, activities, etc.

In regards to school supplies: Our Cadet 1 (like child 1) - we showed up on A-Day with a bin full of school supplies - way overkill and some of the wrong supplies. Our Cadet 2 (like child 2) - we showed up on A-Day with a few of her favorite pens/mechanical pencils and she purchased the stuff she needed at the Cadet Store and made a Wal-Mart run with a borrowed car. The instructors will let them know what they need and the Cadet Store should have it. Also, on Parents Weekends, we do make Walmart/Stapes runs to fill in some school supplies they want/need. Another option we use is Amazon Prime (even for some of the text book rentals vs. buying them) and they can order things they need. The moral of the story is that USAFA will provide them everything they need, or the opportunity to purchase the things they need.

In the "Instructions to Appointees" booklet I believe it does say you address the letter to "Basic Cadet _____". Also, I was told that putting the squadron (e.g. Aggressors, Barbarians, etc.) to the right of the Cadet's name will help the letter get to the cadet without confusion. Squadron name may not be necessary just a tip I was told!

Yes - adding the squadron name is helpful during 2nd BCT, so that mail can be delivered to the basics while at Jacks Valley.
