I heard that prior to a commission, a cadet is required to take the DoDMERB again. Is that true? And is the process just like when you first received the ROTC scholarship?

A DoDMERB exam qualification is valid for two years.

In Army ROTC, if you have not contracted or received a scholarship while your DoDMERB is valid, you will need to go through the process again. Otherwise you don't have to repeat DoDMERB.

Those in AROTC seeking to branch aviation will need to take a flight medical exam as an MS3, but this is different from DoDMERB.

My DD recently commissioned through NROTC. She had to take a pre-commissioning physical (she did not take the flight physical) and what she went through was much more extensive than what she had to do for the DoDMERB exam, including full lab work, etc. I'm not sure if this is standard for every service or commissioning source, but that was her experience.

Oh ok so since I received the 3 year scholarship and already qualified with dodmerb this year, I will not have to take it again my MS3 year? Sorry just making sure!

Have you signed your scholarship form DA FORM 597-3, and passed the APFT? If you have, you should be okay.

Why don't you ask your ROO?

DoDMERB is not required once you are contracted. It is used to screen to get you eligible for scholarship or contract w/o one. Most services have some sort of pre-commissioning physical that is done either junior or senior year. It is usually very thorough and is even more depth if pursuing a pilot, NFO or Rated slots.

I haven't signed any forms yet and haven't been tested on the APFT as I am still finishing up my senior year in high school. Also I've heard that no cadet is to be fully contracted until their MS2 year when they sign all the actual papers.

How thorough? Like they check your urine and blood?

Again, once you sign your contract within two years of DoDMERB you will be finished with DoDMERB.

If you struggle on the APFT or with grades, and fail to validate your contract within two years, then you will have to repeat DoDMERB.

I will let someone on the Army side who had done a pre-commissioning physical address what they do. I can say on the Navy side, it is a head to toe, inside and out check of everything. Most thorough physical I have had in my life. But at USNA we all do flight physicals too. So not sure on Army side.

I would bet that the Army pre-commissioning would be like the Navy because the AF also does a pre-commissioning exam that is head to toe, which would include blood and urine specimens.
~ There was a poster here many years ago that actually got disenrolled 6 weeks prior to commissioning because they failed the pre-commissioning exam for their BMI.

As it has already been stated those going rated will take a much more in depth exam. That exam is called the FAA FC1 (Flight Class). At least for the AF they will send you to WPAFB and it takes basically a day and a half. It is so in depth they even give them an EKG.

Honestly, I would not worry.

Why are you so concerned about another physical? Do you have a potentially disqualifying condition?
