Hello All,

Asking for a friend here: What does the I-Day Medical Exam entail, and how thorough is it? Is it just a few questions that the doctor asks, or is it a full-body check-up similar to the DoDMERB process?

I asked my rising Firstie, but he has no recollection of the event.

Thank you in advance.

Draw blood, quick eye exam, breathalyzer (if they are still doing that), check shots (get them if you need them) and quick chat with the doctor. If you have waivers the chat can take slightly longer. It’s really not that intensive. That is what I can recall from mine and working I Day over the last decade.

As long as your Plebe's responses match those on the earlier physical they should be ok. Fibbing is not acceptable. And answers that don't match will be investigated.

This pretty much answers the question, it's really not a big thing , but rather one of the hoops you jump through during a long day. This is not some secret effort to screen people out , but simply a check to make sure that nothing has changed since DODMERB and ready to take on Plebe Summer. Keep in mind, the Offer of Appointment means USNA wants someone to attend and succeed . While its always difficult to convince a 18-22 old "kid" that Doctors are there to help you (particularly with dreams of going into Aviation, with both pre-com physical and NAMI waiting ahead), the goal of Navy Medicine is to keep our sailors healthy so they can perform the mission of the Navy, not keep someone from pursuing their dream.

We had made sure ours had every shot on the pre rec form. He said that they still gave him 3 shots. I asked what they were for since we had been sure to get all on the list ahead of time. His answer was a good prediction that he would make it in the Navy..."I don't know what they were for. Dude wanted to give me a shot so I took the shot"

Yep.
