There are few moments in person’s life when you feel proud and grateful. When you take your first walk, first baseball throw, swim, bike, achieve academic honors, earning significant athletic and local state national leadership awards, and graduations. Life escalates and we transform.

But nothing beats attainments that are earned through sweat and blood, confronting adversity, physical and mental challenges, trials and failures, testing moral courage, actions with honesty, having integrity, embracing fraternity, judging with fairness, making your best effort, and following before leading others. These are the tests of leadership. It is earned not given. Like fine wine, it takes good soil, climate, time, and free of parasites. And with aging, it becomes superb.

Eagle Scout was such a moment in son’s Life and so we celebrate as a family with many friends. It is tremendous. He embraces the Scout Motto, Scout Law and Oath with humility and pride everyday.

On June 28, 2018, Son began his exciting journey as Midshipman with 1,209 of his 2022 Plebe Class at the U.S. Naval Academy, fulfilling his childhood aspiration that he began at age 10. Family and friends are very proud of him! We thank him for his perseverance, indomitable spirit, maturity, responsibility, and for his service to his country. Serve with confidence, fidelity, and honor! Congratulations!

Congratulations to all of you past, present, and future MIDN. My family is humbled and honored to be a U.S. Naval Academy and Navy Family! Good luck to you all Plebes and candidates at USNA, USMA, USAFA, USCGA, USMMA!

The Naval Academy Buckle reads “Fidelity Obedience.”

You miss him so much, don’t you?

This brought tears to my eyes. Lovely summation of watching your child step into his future. May he thrive at USNA.

Thank you so much for sharing. Yes we do! More than we may know. But we are very grateful that he marched into Bancroft Hall smiling with confidence in great spirit! Thank you again!

On our Bayonet Buckles

Sir!

As soon as I saw the buckle I said the same thing OldRetSWO! Congrats to all the new Plebes. The good news... tomorrow is Sunday! They get a few hours of down time, learn about donut time and if they are religious some great words from the USNA Chaplains.

Is today,(Sunday), the day they get to sit down and write that first "HAPPY" letter home?

Probably the happiest letter they will write us. Looking forward to reading into their mind and spirit with first week of challenges since leaving their comfortable nests.

I am happy to share that the OMG, WHAT HAVE I DONE letters were delivered to the post office today and are heading to an address near you!

Rabbis>Bagels!

I believe bagels are an inter-faith food group! It was Rabbi Panitz and Rabbi Elson, my successive Batt chaplains, who pointed me toward Bagels And on West St. and at the time, Taylor Ave. (now Naval Bagels)

My DD did a fresh Berries Run to Whole Foods Saturday Night for the Sunday 'Secular Mids Group'.

I don't know whats up with the kid. I've always told her we are "Vaguely Presbyterian Theists"------------------------------------ Is this not an option?

Yes, but MOST religious services at USNA do not serve Bagels, cream cheese and (sometimes) lox.
