Hi. Does anyone have any information regarding this tradition of postcards being sent and arriving before acceptance day? Thanks in advance!

Based on how we did things last year, your best bet for info is your class Facebook page. We coordinated through our BCT squadron page as well. This way, all info was kept more secure since you are mailing postcards to the individual basic cadets.

Basically, you creative a postcard congratulating the basics for completing BCT and then send it out to all of the basics in your basics' squadron. Our DS and his "brothers" and "sisters" loved all of the cards they received. I think we mailed them out just a couple of days before A-Day so they didn't receive them before they should. Again, your facebook page will give you a lot of good info for this fun activity!

Hi there. Mom of of 16'er and a 21'er. We signed up for addresses from our respective parents groups and once we were confirmed (I believe USAFA was involved in confirming our status as 'members') we recieved a list of Basics and their PO boxes. Each participant designed their own congratulatory card, mostly referencing "Beating the Beast" and sent them to the Basics to coincide with their return from Jacks or A Day. You could do as many or as few as you wished. Was the first of many Spirit Missions the organized Parents Groups participated in.

USAFA Class of 2022 Group page and USAFA Parents Resource group page on Facebook are great resources as well. Be sure to register/sign up.

Thanks! I was trying to avoid Facebook for various reasons but looks like it cannot be avoided! I have found the parents page and have put in a request to join. Thanks everyone!

As stated above for 2021 it was organized through the 2021 FB page and the 2021 BCT squadron specific pages, i.e. Flying Tigers, etc.... However, there was an issue about the lists that were created in terms of the amount of information on the google docs that were shared and those docs were removed. It's a great tradition and there was a lot of participation and boy the creativity of the parents is really impressive. Really hope that you participate. I really enjoyed creating a postcard and sending it out to 200 cadets - small fortune but worth every penny.

It will be hard to avoid Facebook, especially during BCT. Lots of info and traffic going through those pages that may not go through official channels.

These are not meant as snarky questions and I hope they don't come across that way- but for anyone here whose DS or DD did not participate in the postcards:
Did they feel left out at the end of BCT if their box was not filled with postcards from people they don't know?
Is this 'tradition' as meaningful as the challenge bridge or the shoulder boards? Or is it OK to skip it and not add our DS' PO Box info to a public list on Facebook?

Don't sweat it FFW22. Some parents are very excited about postcards and some don't care. Both attitudes are fine. My understanding is that those creating and sending the cards are sending them to every basic cadet in their squadron, regardless of whether you send them or not. So your DD/DS will receive cards even if you don't participate. Please don't feel pressure to participate in this or any other solicited activity. We all know everyone's lives and interests are different.
