I am touring the AFA this week with my cousin. Can I checkout the Cadet Area Gym? I’d like to see as much as I can, and since I plan on doing competitive weight lifting, this would influence my decision.

Hope you get a chance to see the gym. But with all due respect, a gym shouldn’t weigh on your decision to attend an academy — competitive weightlifting or otherwise. There’s so much more to being a cadet and an officer that something this minor shouldn’t come into play. Please check your intentions and priorities.

I agree with MidCake if the gym is the ONLY factor involved.

However, the OP has previously posted regarding USNA, USMA and ROTC, so it can be reasonable that the quality of a fitness center plays a factor in his/her decision between institutions, given all other factors are equal.

Keep in mind that USAFA has multiple gyms. There is the IC gym that is only available to IC athletes. The "regular" Cadet gym is very nice but the IC gym is really nice. There are other gyms for other sports also but those are probably the two largest gyms.

Generally, the gym areas are open to the public, so you should be able to check it out, but there has been a lot of construction since I was there last (there is a whole new gym apparently...) so some areas may have more restricted access than I remember.
