Hello everyone, I was curious about the mid store rules.

Can plebes go to the mid store?

Is it open during Plebe Summer?

Is there a student discount?

When would you be allowed to go to the store?

Our company was allowed time to go during summer seminar. We only had like 5 minutes to get in and get out, but the store is massive and theres no way it takes 5 minutes to check out the entire store. If anybody can help answer my questions that would be much appreciated!

My DS has gone once in the first three weeks. Just looked around. He didn't really need anything.

Once PS is over, plebes can go to the Mid Store like any other mid. Visits during PS are tightly scheduled, not a relaxed browse.

There is no student discount. It’s already hugely discounted with no sales tax charged, similar to a Navy Exchange or Army BX (Base Exchange) or MCX. Proceeds over and above costs are fed back into the Brigade Midshipman Fund, which helps to pay for fun stuff for the Brigade.

Buy everything you can and take your bags home (USNA canvas shopping bag with all the names). Lost my Midshipman Mid Store Privelige when DD graduated The Mid Store is amazing with some great bargains and a great way to spend some time. Still have some Navy foul weather gear, boat shoes and great sports gear. Youngest DD still wears some NAVY PT gear. DW bought lots of stuff (pencils and USNA cheap stuff for her grammar school class) for hand outs. Probably would be reprimanded now.

As a grad, if you are a lifetime member of the Alumni Association, you have lifetime Midstore privileges. If not a lifetime member, usually limited to Reunions.

I think the eligibility has been expanded a bit. See the link I posted above. Alumni can present gold cards (that must be the lifetime) or reunion name tags, the way I read it. See what you think, but it does look like if you’re not a life-timer, you are limited to reunions. Once I left the staff, I could no longer shop there as active duty me, but could shop there as spouse of alumni life member. Now, I can shop as retired non-alumni-me.

If you have never been to USNA, there are two different stores on the Yard. The "Midstore" referred to above is limited to those who are allowed to purchase items there and is the larger of the two. The other store is open to the general public, but doesn't have as big of a selection.

Good clarification to make - the Visitor Center store near Gate 1 happily sells to everyone. It also gives 10% discount to any military ID holder.

^ Didn't know the official name of the other store. I know the "Midstore" is not open to the general public.

And...and...and...I hasten to add, they don't exactly carry the same merchandise. You'll find clothing at the Visitors Center you won't at the MidStore and vice versa.

Vis Ctr is definitely more general tourist-focused. They’ve picked the best revenue-generators to optimize the much-smaller retail space.

Mid moms and dads LOVE the midstore. Parents going to PPW should bring an empty large bag with them to PPW. It will be packed full of Navy clothing, Navy coffee cups, Navy banners, Navy blankets, etc. on the return trip home.:D:p
