Wondering if anyone knows the dates for Basic Camp for the summer 2019 for AROTC? If not, does anyone know how regular the schedule is from year to year?

Its all changing next summer. Lots of questions about length, # of regiments for advanced and basic camp, etc. We'll know more in a few months.

So what does that mean? College students make other commitments too! Trying to pass on as much information as possible.

There's a new CG for Cadet Command, so changes in summer training might happen and like said above will most likely come out spring 2019. Usually the past dates are fairly similar give or take a couple of days. If you are trying to plan something for the summer your only options are to "request" a summer training slot that's towards the beginning (early June) or end (late July/early August)

Basic camp is not required, unless you are a rising junior and did not do ROTC the first two years. If someone is freshman this fall, then it is likely it will not be required. If they change their minds and make it required next year, then one can request to be at the beginning or end as USN16x states. It is unlikely they will have the budget to require all rising sophomores to attend though. Also, many times your cadet will not know the dates until later in the year.

I learned early on that once in the Army your time is not your own. I was in OBC and planned on going to Ranger school right after. I was doing all of the ranger pre-training and then they changed the requirements mid OBC that mandated that you attend a 2 week pre-ranger course before you go. I had my wedding planned and due to the wait before the pre-ranger course, the actual pre-ranger course and then the additional wait after to get into a Ranger class would have added months to my timeline and conflicted with my wedding. I went to my OBC battalion commander and requested an exemption to pre-ranger class b/c I made wedding plans based on the schedule before there even was such a class. I was told to cancel my wedding if I wanted Ranger school. Needless to say I never went to Ranger school, but I have been married for 20+ years!

With what I said earlier, there will Likely be 3 basic camp regiments starting mid June, every 4-5 days they’ll start. Make your plans and you can request which regiment you attend camp with. May will be pretty safe for plans to avoid conflicts with basic camp. And it’s the Army. Don’t make plans until you know your schedule. Very frustrating for parents I know.
