DD received a tuition payment from NROTC-MO already and to my knowledge she's still waiting on waiver decisions. Is this a sign that said waivers were approved, or more likely a sign that this payment will need to be paid back if she's not waived? Trying not to count my chickens, but endlessly hopeful!

My guess is it's more likely the latter. This is just a guess though. She should be able to check on the status of her waiver to confirm.

I am unfamiliar with NROTC procedures as my DS is Army ROTC. However a prior post from a Navy cadre member, in January of 2017 indicates that the scholarship would not be normally paid out unless the waiver is passed.

@NavyNOLA who no longer participates on this board stated the following: (bold is mine)
A student with a scholarship that is pending a waiver can still be in an NROTC unit and participating to the fullest extent allowable based on any physical limititations. They just won't have their scholarship activated. In essence, they are treated as a college programmer until a decision on the waiver is made. It's not uncommon. We had two mids in this boat this past fall semester.

Based on this, I would say to watch for a change in status, but still be prepared for a payback, just in case.

That's the maddening part: DoDMERB's website does not show her status, and according to her contact, "Never did and never will..." Even though I've seen her status posted in the past. Hmmm.....

What does her contact (NROTC enrollment/recruiting officer) say about the pending waiver and the fund disbursement?

Don't know. This is a recent development and DD is too fully engulfed in training to pay attention to my questions. LOL!

My son had a NROTC MO Scholarship. It did not get disbursed until his waiver was granted . He graduated last May and is now at TBS. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I hope that's the reality. This has been a long painful process, and DD wants to serve with all her heart, and putting all her blood, sweat and tears into it with no guarantees so far!

Was it actually paid to the school, or did the school post the credit in anticipation of the the scholarship? Older son’s school wanted money up front and would pay DS back when NROTC actually sent the money. Younger son’s school was much more lenient with credits for ROTC funding - which meant a fair few families had to come up with $$ fast to pay the bill if there was an issue with activating the scholarship. As others said, hope for the best but be prepared to come up with the payment.

UPDATE: The University of Minnesota Twin Cities give a provisional credit in anticipation of the scholarship, and so we wait and worry. Thanks all for your input!
