Careers in the Coast Guard??

I applying to USAFA and USNA and I had a former teacher telling me to look into the USCGA too. It seems interesting but the problem is the careers - I cant seem to find a list or directory of officer careers in the Coast Guard. I am particularly interesting in seeing how one of them can translate to a civilian career. I tried looking on the coast gaurd website but the list was way too general. Is there some way I can know about officer careers in the USCG so I can see if USCGA can be somewhere worth applying to?

Based on what I have learned, USCG officers have a real job to do every day, as their mission has a guardian flavor to it. In contrast, the Army, Navy, and Air Force tend to drill if not engaged in a military conflict. Based on my experience, the leadership and operations backgrounds coming from a USCG officer are highly prized in the private sector, as they tend to be hands-on and both micro and macro mission focused. Also from my experience, Army platoon leaders with maintenance and operations in their background, and Navy SWOs, logisticians and nuke program graduates all tend to be in high demand in the private sector. From the AF, procurement and logistics backgrounds tend to be coveted by the private sector as well. As for the USMMA grads, they are unique in that their career path can take many directions, and frankly I don't know enough to offer a perspective (although I have heard they can make really good money, choose any branch of service to work in, but if they stay the course as merchant marines their life style is tied to their marriage to the sea). You might also look at the enlisted job descriptions (https://www.gocoastguard.com/active-duty-careers/enlisted-opportunities/view-job-descriptions) as there will need to officers leading each of these types of enlisted jobs. I believe that USCGA graduates have the post-AD potential as graduates from the other SAs.

I went for their AIM program and understood that they are in real service 24/7 365, not just drills. It is very demanding.

What are you interested in doing in the other branches/your life in general? I can give you a better answer if I know that.

I plan on becoming a pilot if I were to attend the Naval/ Air force academy. Also, if given the opportunity, I would attend medical school and serve as a doctor, since I heard there are graduate programs available for SA graduates. Theres a lot more in the air force I would be interested in doing other than flight, such as cyber, space operations, civil engineering

The USCGA does have a new Cyber Systems major as well as a Civil Engineering major. The only one you mentioned they do not have is space operations.

We have a higher number of pilots, by percentage than any other branch of the military. I have spoken with numerous pilots who have stated that everybody they know that wants to be a pilot is one, excepting those with medical conditions or alcohol incidents on their records. We solicit officers to attend flight school from the fleet, which is fancy talk for "If you don't get flight out of the Academy, you can continue to apply every six months until you do get it."

As previously mentioned, we do have a brand new cyber major for the class of 2022, and recent graduates have been sent to CYBERCOM. That's all I'll say about that because I'm not going to pretend to know something I don't.

Lastly, civil engineering. We do indeed have a CE major as well. By no means are you boxed into this if you choose that major, but many civil engineers find themselves as Facilities Engineers. Basically, you are responsible for keeping the base functioning with regard to building maintenance, HVAC, piers and docks, so on and so forth.
