Weak link in my application?

What scale does USAFA use? I know they reconfigure GPAs and that what your school reports and what shows on your portal might not match. What is the highest possible GPA?

Following the lead of @fencersmother (not trying to be snarky), but the scale that USAFA uses when recalculating GPAs is one something that candidates (and parents) should spend zero time thinking/worrying about. Even if you knew for sure, there's no way for you to utilize that data to determine how this score compares with the other candidates you are competing with.

Focus on those things that you have direct control over (e.g. getting applications submitted on time, staying in shape, keeping out of trouble, making sure Plans B, C, and D are in place, and enjoying your senior year). IMHO

Not that it matters but my boys gpa stayed the same and both were/are above 4.5. Not sure the scale they use but it must be pretty darn close to the one used by our HS.

My DH and I purchased a cheapish vehicle for both my boys their senior year, provided they had good grades & were not in any trouble. If they were Student-Athletes we did not require them to have a job, especially during their sport/season. However, it came with a LOT of responsibility and you did not want to piss off your mommy because she would freely take away keys;). When they had jobs they were not close enough to bike to, (One worked at a Theme Park that was a 30 minute drive) it also took the ease of being both FT working parents not having to drive the kid everywhere when I/We had to be at work. Different strokes for different folks. What works for one family doesn't always work for another. Fortunately, we were able to be able to afford to do this and it worked really well.

Oh yeah, and ask my DS who is beyond a seasoned athlete how many times it took him to pass his CFA! Which by the way he thought he had in the BAG.. it was a healthy hand full of times before he passed that sucker. Practice in order... :)

My DS played 3 sports his Freshman & Sophomore year was varsity captain of two starting his sophomore year. His JR & SR year same lettered as well as captain. He took AP classes every year & increased the load if allowed by our school. He also took dual credit classes between his JR & SR yr. he was also apart of National Honor Society which really helped him with his volunteer hours. He graduated #86 out of 900 kids; his SAT & ACT scores were a tad low. He retook them & finally maxed out. With all that he still did not get into USAFA/WP last year. He got his nomination but just wasn’t chosen. Now this year he has reapplied & we will see what happens

Wow that is insane not even to be pulled off the NWL with top 10% class ranking, perfect SAT/ACT (superscore), Captain of sports. Did he go onto AFROTC with an AFROTC scholarship, giving him the chance to at least have 1 more nom before hitting the NWL?

Is it possible “maxed out” meant he kept getting the same score so he “maxed out” (or plateaued) in that context?

Regarding cars: for insurance purposes primarily, we didn't permit our kids to license until 18 (permit was ok). We thought that money could be better spent elsewhere. Our eldest son (not USAFA, but now a commercial pilot) got his pilot's license a full year before his driver's license.
