Should I retake my CFA?

Hi all,

I know I passed my CFA when I took it at the Naval Academy summer seminar, but I'm seeking advice as to whether I should retake it or not to make myself more competitive for an appointment to USMMA. My scores:

Basketball Throw- 48 ft.
Pull-Ups- 35 second hang
Shuttle- 9.5 seconds
Crunches- 95
Push-Ups- 38
Mile- 7:20

I know pull ups have more weight than the arm hang, but I've also been told that I will be fine with the score I have now. Thoughts?

I know nothing about USMMA. But I do know that for USMA, USAFA and USNA, one pull-up is worth more than hanging for eternity. Just my opinion, but regardless of what USNA told me, I’d redo the CFA and try for the average pull-up score — two — while trying to improve everything else too.

My DS took his CFA and got a fail on the pullups and basketball throw. Will this keep him from receiving an appointment? He has two congressional noms and a bunch of other stuff in his favor.

I don’t see how failing two events can result in an overall pass. That defies logic. No matter how good the rest of the application looks, the CFA is an entity unto itself — one of the Qs in 3Q.

I had to take the test a couple of times to pass it. Keep at it.

Just keep working on it! My son printed out several of CFA sheets and gave the CFA to himself every week for several weeks until it was time for the real thing. His first time, he failed most of the categories! The first day he had 22 push ups and worked that up to 57, and went from 42 sit ups to 72. It was a motivator for him to see the progress. You can do this!

You didn't note if you are male or female...

Male: You definitely need to re-do it... Raise those push-ups into at least the 50's and get at least 7+ pull ups.

Female: You're fine for USMMA

I thought that until I saw the flexed arm hang which is for females only.

Usmma is pass fail.
Does that mean they don't care whether you did well on it or just passed? It seemed that they used the same standards and released the same averages as USMA which actually has pretty low physical standards(to my surprise) compared to USAFA. I did pretty well on it and was hoping that it would serve in my favor.

Yes. The DOD schools "grade" the test and assign points. USMMA is pass fail. Meet whatever the pass mark is and you have checked that box.
