Are there any chartered fraternities at West Point, social or professional, and if not would the administration be open to allowing one?

Speaking as a member of the Squid frat, I will be interested in the forthcoming posts.

I will say that joining the military and taking an oath of service is akin to joining a very special fraternity, whose bonds last a lifetime and provide instant kinship with others who have served, regardless of Service, commissioning source, enlisted or officer status, professional community.

There are dozens and dozens of military professional associations, with chapters as appropriate at or near Service Academies.
Greek social fraternities? Reaching for popcorn.

Upon arriving on I-Day, you’ll immediately begin rushing the vaunted fraternity known as Upsilon Sigma Nu Alpha. You’ll undergo seven weeks of hazing. Alcohol, goldfish and blindfolds will not be involved, but you won’t miss them. (Actually, you may wish it was that pleasant.) Should you survive the hazing period, you’ll be accepted into the brotherhood known as Midshipmen (which includes a fair amount of sisters too). After all that — amid all your academic, military and athletic obligations — if you still feel like lobbying the Dant and Supe to start a fraternity, more power to you!

I need something else with my popcorn. We’re in the USMA forum.

I stand corrected...and chagrined. The relevant fraternity in tbis case is Upsilon Sigma MU Alpha. The start of hazing is called R-Day. Hazing in this case involves a bit of mud, but again, no alcohol, goldfish or blindfolds. The fraternity is also known by some long gray name that I forget. The rest of my response stays the same.

I had heard some mention of it from a USNA sponsor mid who had done an exchange semester at USMA. I figured someone would educate me, and I was!
