Whee! Already planning the trip.

We had a blast the last two Dublin games. We usually fly Newark NJ nonstop to Shannon in the west of Ireland a few days before, rent a car, head to an area we haven’t toured before, get to Dublin for the big pep rally on St. Stephens Green, enjoy the game the next day, and head out to another area to explore for a few days on our way back to Shannon. Shannon is an easy-peasy airport, and you can clear US Customs there on the homeward bound leg. Great Duty Free area, the place to pick up any Irish potables to carry on the plane after security.

For parents of mids who will be at USNA during this time, there are a lot of mids who go on the movement order. I think I recall correctly they are billeted over at Trinity. Many families go for a meet-up trip.

Everywhere you go in Dublin and the major tourist spots around the country, you see either Navy blue and gold or ND blue and gold. Very collegial and fun. The Dublin pubs really get into it.

The Irish Tourist Board has an extensive site, and you can book bed and breakfasts and other hotels through them. We have gone both the luxury castle hotel route and the B&B route; both can be rewarding in terms of experience.

My Class ('85) had a mini-Reunion last time, and they had a blast ! I didn't go because we were sending youngest daughter off to college at about the time the game was scheduled , and we had no idea where she would be going or when she was starting two years in advance. My class has been pretty good at traveling -- large contingent in Hawaii and in San Diego this week, so I expect there will be a group in Ireland 2020. Guiness and Jameson better start working overtime.

DH ran into classmates all over Ireland, super excuse to repair to the nearest pub and catch up.

We plan on going! Do the Mids who get to travel over get any “liberty”? My DS Mid will be turning 21 that week!

Liberty abounds. Roll calls at appropriate times.

Ensure your DS stays sat in every respect!

I went last time and had a blast. Dublin was very welcoming. The best part is they loved the Navy fans! We went up to Scotland for one night while there. Cheap and short flight for a quick exploration of Edinburgh.

We may have to have a secret SAF symbol to wear so that we can recognize SAF members who might find themselves in Dublin.

I would love to go, too, but we will be sporting ND gear! We are going to the game in San Diego this weekend and are really looking forward to it.

Too funny. Perhaps a badge with a rollercoaster logo and screen name in a Comic font.

It’s all blue and gold, except for those space program gold helmets of the Irish. Now that is Midas-toned.

Who does the Fly Over? Don't rent or drive in Ireland. You will not see anything staying on their "correct" side of the road. Your passengers will see everything. Wish I could be there.

How do you get tickets to the game? Will the mids have the ability to buy tickets like they do for Army/Navy? and if so, how many can they order? Or are the tickets only available thru a ticketmaster type offering where they sell out in seconds?

The mids should be able to requisition them.

I don’t recall Aviva Stadium was sold out the last time.

Ones that are eligible for and get approved for the movement order. Mids have to

Plebes also won't be able to go if it's anything like the 2012 game. All the paperwork had to be done by the previous spring so class of 2016 couldn't go when we were plebes.

Post interrupted, sorry, but pleber16 makes an important point. The classes of 2021, 2022 and 2023 should be eligible to go.

Mids do have to be sat - no academic, performance, conduct issues. Varsity athletes in season may have a challenge.

The USNA Alumni Assn had its travel packages posted right away, as did some other travel companies. Alumni from both sides turn out in large numbers.
