Does Cadet Command award ECPs or the MJC's on the National Board? Or both?

I applied for the ECP and have not received anything yet, while I see other people get it.

I was confident I could possibly get it on this board for the ECP but maybe I'm not high enough on the OML??? Even for the ECP?

UW GPA: 3.6

W GPA: 3.78

ACT: 26 (will be updating after Oct results come out, prob 27)

PT: 64 pushups in min, 49 situps in min, 6:45 mile

Leadership: I am the President of my school, former Secretary of my school, former Class President, Boys State Assemblyman (3rd highest position you can acquire at Boys State), in multiple honor societies, have 500+ hours of community service in my church, basketball team founder, and more.

Sports: Two 1st degree black belts in TaeKwonDo and MMA, Assistant to the Master, run XC and track

I know I doing the "chance me" type post but I am surprised I haven't received an offer for ECP (something i'd want if I don't get a 4 or 3 yr). I know 1st board 4 or 3 yr scholarship winners are usually the most competitive so I didn't expect those offers.

Anyone think the MJC's or Cadet Command are still awarding these? Or would I need to wait for 2nd board? Sorry if I sound salty, but I am indeed frustrated.

I just posted about this topic under post Delayed Citadel Admission [emoji1]

Last year when we received ours, they came out the same week as the results for round #2 of the 4/3yr ROTC scholarships.

I am not aware of any ECPs being offered prior to round #2.
Some were this board apparently haha. Maybe not a lot though

My DD and another student in her school were offered ECP's and both came from Cadet Command on Friday, the day after the 1st board results were dropped.

After deliberation and reviewing information my DD and the other student in her school to receive one, are both declining and continuing to compete for 2nd and 3rd board.

You didn’t get a first round offer, just like 90% of the board ready applicants...relax. 2 more rounds of offers to go.

I completely understand the decision you faced, which must have been even tougher considering it was the 1st round. When we went through this last year, we were on round 2 and had not received a 4 year. My DS 2 best friends were in the same boat. Although DS had his heart set on The Citadel, we took a quick weekend trip to Valley Forge after the ECP offer to check it out. Fortunately DS really licked the school. So we took the ECP and drove on. He will transfer to The Citadel at the end of his Sophmore year. The great thing about ECP is that you commission as a 2LT at the end of your sophomore year. So when you graduate from your 4 yr. You will be a 1LT rather than a butter bar.

DS 2 best friends were not as Fortunate. One turned down ECP after round 2 so that door was closed. And did not receive an offer for round 3.

The other one who also wanted to go to the Citadel, turned down ECP after Round 2. He was offered a 3yr during round 3. However The Citadel informed him that the family "only" had to come out of pocket $56,000 for the first year.

Ironically. DSs roommate at Valley Forge was told the same thing as DSs friend. Just cough up $56k fir the first year and the other 3 years are paid for. Somehow his mother actually drive to cadet command and spoke with someone during round 3, and received an ECP.

Looks I'll have to look wait until the 2nd or 3rd board for an ECP or a 3 or 4 yr scholarship

Question about this...if DS did not select ECP before being boarded at 1st board, can he change that now if he wants?

Be cognizant of the 3yr "catch" if you are lucky to receive one. The Citadel would only use them for sophomore thru senior year. So the parents, had to come up with the $56K the first year.

Yes - this is true - and why sometimes having an affordable option on your application is crucial, whether you receive a 3 year or none and decide to go anyway and compete for a campus based scholarship.

When my daughter applied a few years ago she listed 4 options #1 out of state private, but would cost her less than our instate with her academic scholarships, and included room and board being waived if she did get a scholarship#2 a out of state public, but she qualified for a "state exchange" scholarship that made it less than her in state options, #3 an out of state public, same situation as #2 and her 4th option was an instate private, (57K a year at the time, now more), that she had to list because she needed an in our state school with her program, included room and board for all scholarship recipients for all 4 years, even for 3 year recipients.

Bottom line when she received the 3 year AD, the 4th choice, even though tuition was 44k for a year was the least expensive because she received generous academic scholarships that brought it down significantly and included a room and board waiver all 4 years.

If going for the 3 year and turning down the Ike, then adding some schools that would work but be more affordable is key. Some families can absorb the 50k+, others cannot. Some private schools have a lot of endowed money to help freshman waiting for a scholarship, others do not.

Definetly concur with your advice!! That is one of the reasons that we made the decisions that we did. The age old saying "a bird in the hand, is worth 2 in the bush." I really felt sorry for DSs friend who turned down the ECP offer in round 2, and ended round 3 with no offers at all. Now his family is shelling out major dollars to finance his education.

Your son's friend may have wanted the chance to serve active duty.

After your son completes his first two years of Junior College and transfers to the Citadel, will he have a scholarship from the Citadel?

Probably the one saving grace of the ECP program...the Ike Skelton covers the last two years. ECP to SMC ... wonder what the chances are of getting GRFD revoked and being able to serve active duty.
