I have just received my LOA from USNA to the class of 2023, which I am extremely excited about. I have two interviews this weekend with my congressman and senator, and another interview in 2 weeks with the other senator. I have prepared for them and feel confident for them. Also, I have passed my eye exam of the DODMERB and have the last exam this Friday. I was wondering what my chances are of actually getting an appointment? What are the chances that even with the LOA that I don't receive a nom to USNA? My dream in life is going to USNA, so I am just stressing out and any words of wisdom or help would be greatly appreciated

Your chances are very high. Take the interviews seriously and well prepared and I expect things will turn out in your favor. Good luck.

Also, how excited should I be about my LOA? How many people receive this? I have tried to remain calm because I still have to get a nom, but is this something to really be happy about or do a lot of people get this?

Congratulations CaseTrauger99... I too am waiting for the nomination .... did you get any post or email for your LOA? I just received an email.

@CadeTrauger99, you should feel great about the LOA. It’s rare and coveted. At the same time, it’s conditional, as you well know. Whatever the contingency — sounds like a nomination, in your case — you need to address it to USNA’s satisfaction. So celebrate, for sure, but then go finish the job.

You have just cause to be happy about it. USNA gives out very few LOAs. No one knows for sure, but pure conjecture puts the number around 10% of all Offers of Appointment. If they make 1,200 offers this year, that means that maybe they will send out approximately 120 LOAs. See? Lots of conjecture.

Your LOA is technically a Conditional Offer of Appointment. If you satisfy the condition(s) of the LOA, then you will receive a Fully-Qualified Offer of Appointment.
My DS received one last year (contingent upon receiving a nomination). About three (3) weeks later, he received a nomination. Six (6) days after that, he received his Fully Qualified Offer of Appointment.

I received an email saying I have been recommended for admissions to the class of 2023, and then when I looked at the application portal my application status was "Conditional Offer of Appointment LOA."

If nobody has covered this, please do make sure you tell all of your interview panels that you have a LOA (in a very humble way). You need a nomination. You do not have to be on the top of the slate. USNA already wants you. The nomination is a box check (albeit an important one). Point is that your nominating source won't have to "burn" their nomination on you because you need "A" nomination, not "The" nomination out of their office. This will obviously matter more if the source uses a slate, but make sure they know about your letter. Good luck!
