Just a reminder that application portal for USAFA Summer Seminar 2019 opens up tomorrow (12/01/2018) and closes on 01/15/2019.

Only about 20% of applicants are selected to attend Summer Seminar each year. If you are not selected, please remember the following (as explicitly stated on the USAFA Summer Seminar web page):

Please keep in mind that selection to attend Summer Seminar is NOT in any way a prerequisite for admission to the Academy. Summer Seminar is NOT a pre-screening or pre-selection program. All students applying for Summer Seminar are encouraged to apply for appointment to the Academy, regardless of selection for Summer Seminar. There is no correlation between selection for Summer Seminar and appointment to the Academy. If you are not selected for Summer Seminar, it should not be interpreted as a reflection on your qualifications or ability to successfully pursue an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.

Good luck to all those endeavoring to become members of the USAFA Class of 2024.

I went to Summer Seminar in 2018 and it was well worth it. It has helped me prepare myself for the application of the Academies. I was directly asked today by the interview MOC panel about my experiences.

I would not hesitate to do it again.

Also reminder: SS has no bearing on your acceptance to any military academy.

DD is applying! Question that she emailed her ALO 12/02, but in the meantime:

For academics, ONLY address the classes listed, is that correct?
  • If the following courses were taken and completed, your grades for English (9th-1st Semester of 11th) and Math (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Physics, Chemistry)
DD won't get 5th semester grades until after 01/15/19, so should she cite "tbd" or estimate the letter grade?

Thanks for any advice.

@HCopter, why not just wait until grades are out and report her actual results? January 15 is not that far away, the deadline is still well beyond that, and you’ll be submitting a complete package instead of saying “TBD” or estimating. Seems like the most prudent route.

@MidCakePa - USAFA Summer Seminar submission deadline is January 15th.
@HCopter - If your DD is 9x% confident in her grades, she should be okay in listing her anticipated grade (just be sure it is clearly marked as estimate). Otherwise, I would personally recommend the TBD approach.

Thank you @FMHS-79 !
I think for now DD will plug in and use "est" to indicate it's estimated.

@FMHS-79, thank you for setting me straight. I was under the impression that the deadline was much later. But then again, my DD’s experience was a couple years ago now, so my memory has clearly faded.
