As I was applying for the ROTC scholarship, the information I received was several years old (but mostly accurate) and I wanted to update this forum on what it takes to get a four year ROTC scholarship. My top three schools of intent were 1. Notre Dame, 2. Creighton, 3. Xavier. I received a four year offer to all three schools from the october board and accepted the offer for Notre Dame. Below are my "stats."

ACT: 31Comp. 34Eng. 31Math 34Rea. 33Sci.

GPA (unweighted)/class rank: 4.o/ 3/91
Sports: competitive soccer since 5th grade, 4 Varsity soccer letters, Defensive MVP

Leadership: Eagle Scout, Club President, Club Vice-President, NHS, officer in Science NHS, Boys State, West Point SLE, volunteer tutor

Other things: School's top science student, AP Scholar Award, will complete ~11 hours of concurrent credit (including Gen. Chem. I)
Fitness test (I was told that the 1-mile is the most important): 58 PU, 40 SU, 6min 26sec 1-mile

I was also told that the 1st board gives out 4yr scholarships, the 2nd gives out a mix of 4&3yr, and the 3rd gives out whatever is left. I hope this was a help to some applicants in the future, and I hope I don't discourage anyone from applying. The only way you can receive an offer is if you apply;) Other winners feel free to add on to this thread!

Impressive resume, congratulations.

I will say, however, that this information is less helpful than some other stats that I've seen because keep in mind that you are only one data point and while you know that you were a first-round selection, you don't know where you fall in that group. I would suspect that if you also had a good interview, you are likely in the upper half of that group. So, just looking at your stats doesn't tell any prospective applicant anything about the typical minimum requirements to achieve a selection.

On the other hand, one can find stats about the averages for the entire class makeup for prior years. This will give a more realistic picture of whether any given applicant is in the ballpark of being selected for a scholarship of some sort and reading posts with stats of others that have received 3 and 4-year scholarships will give you a good idea of what it takes to obtain these scholarships.

Even then, you're not quite home free as you also have to get past DODMERB which can trip up a lot of otherwise very capable applicants so best of luck with that as well if you haven't done so already.

That's very true. One person can't show for a whole group, especially since I was a first board offer. My interview went well (I will say a suit really does help). My DODMERB has been submitted and I'm just waiting for the review to come back. The doctor and optometrist said they would be surprised if I came back medically disqualified, but I can understand where previous serious injuries (like repeated ACL tears) could hurt someone.

Congratulations ! I had ROTC as plan B. I didn't get picked in the first board. In turn got LOAs from USNA and USCGA. It proves that there is no one criteria here, we just keep doing our honest best and have faith and hope. All the best too you !

Congrats to you as well! Getting into those academies is quite an accomplishment that most can't pull off. All the best to you too!

Congratulations to you! I do find this post helpful, as my son applied for the AROTC scholarship, and was posted as "boarded and under consideration" first round. I would say that his qualifications are "in the ballpark" with what you shared, so it gives me a little more hope for this round. I do realize, as others pointed out, you are just one person, not an average, but its a good frame of reference. Best of luck to you, and we will wait and see what happens this round for my son!

DS received a 4 year AROTC scholarship on the first board and early acceptance into an Ivy. He also didn't receive a LOA from USMA, USNA, USAFA, or USCGA.

Nice job and Congrats on your Army ROTC Scholarship!! I was rolled over to the 2nd board last month (boarded and under consideration). I did get a 4 year Air Force ROTC Scholarship last week Dec 17th and a offer of Appointment to the USNA last October 26th! Your stats are a great reference point for upcoming applicants but that doesn’t reflect the other awardees who were selected.
