Nomination Questions

......Now just wait for an appointment

Just to clarify for those new to this forum, everyone with a NOM will NOT get an appointment. Being 3Q AND having a NOM puts you in the RUNNING for an appointment, but there are no guarantees.

The MOC's office should notify you if you did not receive a nom. USNA does not provide such notifications (they don't know who applied for which noms).

Statistically speaking (for USNA, based on the last few years) your chances of receiving a fully-qualified offer of appointment go up to about 40%* after you are 3Qd with a nomination. Those are pretty good odds, but in no way a sure thing.

* Approx. 3,000 3Q with nomination, and approx. 1,200 of those are offered an appointment (1,200/3,000=0.4)

^^ An even then, USNA no longer routinely tells applicants if they are 3Q, so some of the prior threads dealing with concerns about a lack of an appointment could simply be the result on not being 3Q. Individual candidates have no way to know if they are 3Q.

Any idea how the VPOTUS Nomination works (DS applied months ago and no word yet) ?

As long as he applied he is qualified for the VP Nom. USNA will handle these. Really won’t hear anything other then maybe an email that it was received. It seems some get the email some years and others don’t. As long as he submitted it, will be fine.

Thanks ! Had to keep all options available (1 Congressional interview , I Senatorial interview and VPOTUS app) ...

In regards to VP my DD received an email from USNA telling her they are aware of the VP request and no further action was needed. We were lucky got the MOC nom so no need for VP.

Not necessarily true. Someone else could win the MOC slate, in which case they could use the VP nom to appoint her if they want her. That's why one always applies to all nominations sources. Each nom is another chance to win the appointment lottery.

Confused. My DD has a LOA and senator nom and is waiting on DODMERB. There is still a chance she won't get in even if she passes medical. We are new so any info would be great.

Your daughter should be fine if she is cleared medically. The first post the LOA wasn’t mentioned. 3Q+Nom+LOA = appointment

Double (triple) checking ...(?)

3Q = Academically, Physically (CFA) and Medically (DODMERB) qualified
+ Nomination
+ LOA

Sorry. Didn't realize she had an LOA. In any case, they'll get to choose who to charge the LOA appointment to. They can use the MOC, or if there is someone else they really want off the MOCs slate, then they can use the VP (or even a Sup nom I guess). As long as she passes the DoDMERB, she's in.
