Reapplicant question...."DOA" with a 2.5 from Texas A&M Engineering/Corps of Cadets for the fall semester? Or should she still send the transcript and complete her USNA application? Worth the trouble? For what it's worth, she didn't play around....she absolutely busted her tail.

Does she have a nomination? The application completion deadline is January 31st, but it won't matter without a nomination.

If she has a nomination, then why wouldn't she complete her application?

100% of those that don’t complete the application don’t get in. It might be a long shot, but I would recommend writing a compelling personal statement explains what she learned and how she will build off of that. Plenty of plebes start with a 2.5 and graduate ( at least in the “good old days”)

Lol. . . even those who are under 2.1 can (and some do) end up in the upper half of their class.

She does indeed have a Congressional nomination, so that was my thought...that she finish it up and see where the dice land! [emoji4] I like the idea of adding a "personal statement" - is that something she would compose and send to her USNA admissions advisor?

Some of the decision will depend on her course load. If she got As or Bs in calc, chem, physics, engineering, etc. that will help. Cs will obviously be less helpful. But you have to go through the entire process in order to have any chance.

[edit to original post] By "decision," I meant USNA's decision. Fully agree the candidate should keep going.

If she has a nomination, she simply must finish that application and follow through with what she started.
That shouldn't be a debate, in my opinion.

Just my opinion, though.

Being contrary if you can swing the bill or she can step up her game to get NROTC scholarship why would she want to start over at USNA?

Tex A&M is a fine school with a proud Corps of Cadets and she's going to end up at the same place in the end.

I agree she should complete her package and put her best foot forward and let USNA admissions decide. I also believe it’s not easy with 2.5 college freshman GPA from any college. College applicants face a steeper battle with more determined reapplicants with much stronger grades especially in STEM. I agree with CitadelN88 your DD, in parallel, should seek NROTC Commissioning at Texas A&M which is a very strong school and well respected. Nevertheless, don’t give up the ship and follow through and complete the package!

Excellent advice everyone, thank you! She's definitely shooting for an NROTC scholarship and is quite content at TAMU if that's what the future holds. Kinda nice that she's only 1.45 hours away from home right now, also [emoji854] But she's been determined to make a 2nd run at USNA and see where the cards fall.
