Should I be worried about the 3Q letter??

Don’t expect many appointments for West Point till January. The word in the FFR world is that it will be like the last two years.
In the past couple of years were the January appointments just made to those with an LOA? I am just curious because the 3Q letter suggested not to expect any news until the end of Feb. at the earliest.
The first wave of appointments are typically LOA holders and service connected nominations and may have a few clear NWL winners even if they don’t win a slate. MOC nominations are not due till the end of the month so slates cannot be resolved. Most candidates with just an MOC nomination will not hear till late February at the earliest.

Hi. I am candidate for the USMA class of 2023. I recieved an "academic" LOA from West Point in early October and I am now medically qualified/have a nomination but I haven't received a 3Q letter. Is there something else that I need to do that I am unaware of?? Because many of my friends have received their 3Q letter and I am now becoming worried.
Have you passed the CFT yet?

Another thought................If you get an appointment in December, you have NO advantage on a New Cadet who gets their appointment in April............none................Come the first week of July, you will all be New Cadets and no doubt wondering what you got yourself into..............moral of the story? The goal is an appointment, regardless of when it comes. .............If you have all your checks checked, relax and be a HS senior.............Flash!! graduation!!!...........goes fast.

@Saralee It is a marathon. You will hear about nomination stuff separately from admissions stuff...so you cannot equate the two. Perhaps you can look for a thread or review the nomination material for your state or congressmen--when do they do interviews? when do they announce their slates?
Admissions...if you portal shows nothing but green circles/packet complete--you may hear NOTHING until around 1 May. This is not indicative of a likelihood of being accepted or not accepted. At some point you will know your likelihood based on having a nomination or not having a nomination--but you could also get the prep school--even up until the declaration deadline (1 May). You could be surprised one day by a Big Fat Envelope appearing on your doorstep or the magic purple appointment box appearing on your portal.
This is the part of applying that is hard for the well-organized enthusiast. You just have to wait and maybe for a long time. In our house Capt America (#1 Son) got an LOA in September of his senior year but more recently The Baby (#3 Son) heard NOTHING (N-O-T-H-I-N-G--NO FEEDBACK) until late April --and then the BFE appeared on the doorstep in the rain (on a Saturday with a TWE--telling him to hurry up and make a decision following on Monday...seriously). One of my friends who stalks this page knows that I had given up...that he had accepted a different, other service academy who are terrible at football. (Thank you Sweet Lord for bringing him back to the Army Team. Amen.)
So, again, you are waiting for 2 things. 1) the nomination--you will know by late January and 2) the appointment/admissions decision--you may not know until late April.
It is a marathon, not a sprint. You must not give up hope as others may receive BFEs before you--no news is not good news or bad news, it is just 'no news.'
You must finish your Army ROTC application, you must work out, you must apply to your other colleges--and try not to be anxious about this--if you have done everything you can do, then you must be prepared to wait. All of us will be here waiting with you. Keep faith.

For what it's worth when my DS had his overnight visit the parents had an admissions briefing. We were told not to expect big waves of appointments until late Feb. this year.

Hi question for you (out of topic) just like to know, where you stayed during your DS’s overnight?

I know I’m not the OP, but my mother stayed at the Bear Mountain Inn during my overnight and found it quite pleasant (and cheaper than the Thayer). Super quiet in the off-season and not far at all from Thayer Gate.

We stayed at the Thayer. Beautiful hotel, great restaurants and just inside the gate. The rooms are named after USMA graduates and each has a plaque beside the door with the graduates accomplishments and several more pictures and news articles inside the room. It is a little more expensive ($170) but being the first time on post my DS didn't want to be late or us get lost on the day I dropped him off. Now that I've been there are several hotels you will pass in and right outside Highland falls including a Holiday Inn Express that is probably 10 mins from the gate.

About the Thayer...early days but for R day, A Day, PPW, Graduation. There is something to being on post and in front of traffic that is worth it if you can afford it. Worth investing early.

When is R Day anyway? Do we know yet?

R day appears to be July 1st 2019, as posted on Thayer hotel website. Although things can change, I’m thinking this will be the date since this year R Day was July 2nd.

Actually, the beauty of a Thayer reservation is that if the official date for an USMA event changes (yes, it happens)--then the reservation for that event changes, too.

Just keep in mind for those events the Thayer is approx. $400 per night.. 2 nights A-Day weekend in August cost me $864.00.. That's a little deep for most of us..

Actually, the DoD is already funded for this year--since Sept 2018--so a gov't shut down will not impact USMA. However, tomorrow is Saturday and the President made Monday (Christmas Eve) a federal holiday--so no one will be around until Wednesday. Things are traditionally slow during "Dead Week"--the week between Christmas and New Years.

For the most high profile weekends and events the Thayer does command a premium price range. That being said, the service, and convenience of the location simply can't be beat. The staff remembers us and our Cadet every time we stay without fail. We have to take red eye flights into the area when we come and the Thayer gets us into our room easing the burden of the long flight. Our first Thanksgiving was spent at the Thayer as our Cadet just couldn't make it home. We left that Friday and our Cadet stayed two nights alone. She loved it just to get away. They took good care of her. It gave us great peace of mind knowing where she was and she was on a mini leave in familiar surroundings. The cost of that Thanksgiving weekend stay was significantly less than the chain lodging outside the gate. Much, much less than the A-Day stay you had. It very much depends when you stay. Great prices can be had. Our Cadet walks over there for dinner once in a while for the Salmon dinner. They remember her every time. We are fans.
