Hello everyone,
Although I am a long way out from becoming an active duty officer in the Army (5 years), I have recently been looking at possible paths I can take after graduation of USMA. I am currently interested in branching Infantry and then trying out for SF (green berets) or the 75th Ranger Regiment. I realize both of these routes are difficult, but I like a challenge, so these two options have stood out to me.
The main reason I am writing this is because I was doing some research on both of these options, and I came across a concern regarding the 75th RR. It seems as if it is quite nearly impossible to get into the 75th RR as a commissioned officer due to the high number of Infantry Officers in the Army that are gunning for such a small number of officer spots in the 75th RR. So, considering this, I looked more into Army SF, and this route seems more clear cut. I read that there is a higher chance of getting to try out for SFAS and SFQC as a commissioned officer than there is for trying out for RASP 2 as a commissioned officer.
So, my question is: out of USMA, supposing I branch Infantry, is it easier to get a spot as an Army SF Officer, or is it easier to get a spot as a 75th Ranger Regiment Officer? Thanks for the help.
