Does anyone have updated stats from 2017 on how many AROTC applicants were completed and selected?

There is a large number of applicants that either don’t finish the application or aren’t qualified. Approximately 14000 applications are started each year. In my case about 60% of the applicants that apply and list one of my schools actually get boarded. Here’s the bottom line...if you apply and you complete your file and are boarded you have a chance of receiving a scholarship offer. That is what you can control and what you can be sure of each year.

Offer rates were very high last year for those that made it to interview. Somewhere around 80%. AFROTC dets I've talked to confirmed that number. HQ is apparently much more selective about who gets an interview now. The expectation this year is that that number will be very similar.

And yes, many applicants never finish the application process or are rendered ineligible before the interview.

Yes, that’s very true. It’s out of my control now, and I just have to wait.

AD OTS was completely full last year and will be the same this year. If you
There are also people awarded ROTC scholarships who don’t accept them.

and people offered them that never applied

Wait you serious ?
Assuming that statement is meant to be understood that students were offered AFROTC scholarships for which they had not applied, yes, anecdotal evidence indicates this occasionally occurs (but is exceedingly rare). Regardless, they still have to fill out all the application paperwork to accept, so it's not an entirely accurate statement.

Unless @CitadelN88 meant that personnel at HQAFROTC (many of whom never personally applied for an AFROTC scholarship) offered said scholarships, then that would also logically be 100% true and quite common.

The statement could be interpreted both ways, but my money is on the former explanation rather than the latter. Regardless, only @CitadelN88 can clear up the confusion.

Yes my son never applied to army rotc - he did apply to USMA/USNA and was eventually not offered appointment to either. He did receive an NROTC scholarship which he accepted.

Then right before Independence Day he received an offer of a four year army rotc scholarship. He thought it was some form of a scam or marketing ploy but it was indeed a bonafied offer of a scholarship. He considered it and ultimately declined in favor of the Navy one.

There are SA candidates who have also applied for an ROTC scholarship as a plan B . If they are offered an SA appointment they will often choose to accept it and decline the ROTC scholarship.
As far as the ROTC scholarships being offered to someone who never applied for one, I’ve heard it said that some SA candidates who do not get an offer of appointment may be offered an ROTC scholarship. I will let Citadel further explain that statement though.

I think there were some others around here who got the same thing last July - he had to make a decision pretty quickly. I'm guessing since all the paper work and physical and such is done for academy it's an easy and cheap way for ROTC to get a few more into their program.
